Default How to get rid of coffee/tea stains in mugs/cups?

Had a big pile of cups and mugs in yesterday's dishwasher load and when putting them away noticed many were stained inside. Some of DH's favorite mugs are quite old so I know they stain easily but some of our newer ones are staining also. Wondering if anyone has a good way to clean them.

I've heard that denture cleaner does a good job. I have never used it though.

For quick stains, I wipe the inside with a Magic Eraser and then rinse really well. Stains that do not succumb to Mr Clean's erasers, I put them in hot water with a quarter of a cup of bleach. Let soak for about 15-20 minutes then wash with hot soapy water. Hope that helps.

I use Polident for my dentures and DH uses them for cleaning the stainless steel coffee pot. I'm sure it will clean the cups.

Bleach will clean them in a matter of seconds. If you have a spray bottle of Clorox Clean-up that'll do the trick or straight from the bleach bottle. You won't need to use very much and then you can move it from one mug to another. I just cleaned a few mugs the other day using bleach.

I spray my coffee cup with Clorox kitchen cleaner and wallah, stains all gone. Use it on my tea pitchers too.

OMG, I just recently used a tip I got off of pinterest and it worked!

    What you need:

    Steps to Remove the Stain:

    1. Rinse the cup with water.
    2. Sprinkle enough Bar Keepers Friend powder over the surface to make a light paste.
    3. Go over the area with a cloth scouring pad to ensure the paste covers the stains.
    4. Wait about five minutes, but do not let the paste dry on the cup.
    5. Begin scrubbing in earnest with the cloth scouring pad. If you use a new pad, it won’t take long.
    6. Add more Bar Keepers Friend directly to stains as needed.
    7. Once the stain is gone, rinse well under water.
    8. Discard the scouring pad, then wash the cup with your regular dish soap or run it through the dishwasher.

I love it when I find something on pinterest and use it successfully! This works for the gray marks/scratches on white or light ceramic dishes too. It makes me feel like my time is not actually wasted.
Finished is way better than perfect!

I thought I heard that soaking them in a baking soda solution works too but I haven't tried it.

I have white coffee mugs that I give a spritz with Clorox Kitchen Cleaner on occasion before I put them in the dishwasher. It keeps them nice and white.

I started using Bar Keeper's Friend after getting my stainless steel sink. I've used Comet for years, but knew I didn't dare use it on the new sink. Bar Keeper's Friend was recommended by our plumber. Wow, that stuff works great! I use it on my copper kettles, & it really makes them shine! I'll have to try it for some of my stained cups. I wear disposable gloves to protect my skin whenever I use any cleaning products.

Regarding denture cleaner tablets - I use them for the toilet bowl. I cannot stand the heavily scented odors in many bowl cleaners. I use 2 tabs. & let it soak ~10 min., then brush the bowl. Works pretty well. JCY
