Default Do you have a 'go to' ?

I was just curious if any of you have a "go to" baby quilt design.. I'm struggling a bit .. I have 1 yard of 3 coordinating fabrics (minus apprx 2.5" on each one because I goofed) .. 2 of the 3 are all over types .. no problems there.. the 3rd has lines on it .. and the lines veer slightly ... as if it's not printed on the fabric correctly.. my "goof" was cutting strips off each one , and sewed them together to see how they'd look... and that veering line print is just messing with the look.. (and my brain) it of course makes anything look crooked.
Is there a pattern for blocks I can use that would somehow disguise the slightly 'off' print of the fabric? Or am I just making things difficult on myself.. Any suggestions gratefully accepted!!

My Grandmother used to make simple drawings of animals for me when I was little; puppies, bunnies, kittens, etc. I turned them into appliques and use them on baby quilts. I also do running horses appliques for the horse crazy little girls.

I hope this doesn't cause a lot of gasps but can you cut the fabric the othe direction so you have short little lines in your long strip? I think rail fence makes a cute baby quilt.

That was my first thought, too. It should be straight grain either parallel or perpendicular to the selvage.

Sashed squares is a good 3 colored baby quilt pattern.

I love that too! Do you think this would look OK done in flannel as a rag quilt? The squares could be any convenient size, I guess.

I'm not sure about a rag quilt on this one. I think it wouldn't look right ragging those four-patches unless they were much larger. That would cause the larger squares to be much too large to compensate for enlarging the four-patches. I don't think the quilt would have the same appeal. What makes this such a great little quilt is that polka dot stripe and those very pleasing colors.
