    Using contrasting colours is a very tough call when trying to balance your tension.

    Are both threads the same weight?

    Are they both the same type? Cotton or poly or blend. Also, what brand are you using?

    How many layers are you sewing through? One layer will be very difficult to balance compared to multiple layers.

    Do u like how the tension looks when you use the same colour?

    I was also going to suggest using the same color thread in top and bottom. #4 looks relatively balanced to me.
