Only for immediate family or self IF it is worth it....
Others I do on a case by case basis and never wedding apparel. Repeat "offenders" I offer to teach them how to do it. This always seems to give them a better understanding of the value of my time and their request. However, there are always those that will milk free for all it's worth. The best thing I ever leaned was how to say, NO, but I can recommend an excellent tailor!

I can't wait fir my daughter to learn the meaning of "just" in her, "but mom, you could JUST make me one.... ;-)

I have the same problem. I'm not a seamstress but once in awhile I will mend something simple for a family member. But I usually tell the person nicely, "Sorry, I'm a quilter not a mender."

This is an easy one for me. I just tell them I would be happy to show them how they can do it. Most times they dont ask me again. For my girls, I dont mind here and there. But they have learned too.

    Sure! I'll mend your ______.
While I am doing that, you can clean my barn. Or if you are afraid of the animals, my bathroom needs scrubbing.

I am willing to bet not many people take you up on that offer - and I love the barter system as well, my standard response is I only make quilts and table runners and such - I flunked sewing in high school and that usually ends that!

The only person who asks me to mend is my son -- who lives 6 hours from me!! His wife does not sew. So he has to wait until I can make a trip there. But I don't mind.

Yes, I'm asked all the time to mend and alter. I will mend for my DD when she comes to visit. My DH sews missing buttons back on his shirts...he says that asking a quilter to mend is like asking Rembrandt to whitewash a fence.

I hate mending. I always tell people I don't know how to sew only know how to quilt. I only mend for my husband and kids and grandkids. Honestly don't feel comfortable doing mending.
