    Question I need a mentor

I've messed up. I can't get through my "block" to make a baby-quilt. Instead I keep buying material.

I thought my kids were done with babies. Then my daughter, who has one 5 year old and is a busy physician, decided to have another. YAY! I've never made a quilt, just messed around, but I want so bad to make a baby quilt.
They decided not to reveal the gender until they had a renewing of vows in Hawaii with the 5 year old involved. So I tried to buy a lot of "gender-neutral material".

    The truth comes out:
It's a boy! What a Joy! Gonna drive Nana crazy.

Egads. Everything I bought is NOT "gender-neutral material".
    So I buy more.

NOW I am completely frozen up and can't even think of where to start. Luckily baby isn't due until January so I have all fall.
BUT, please, would anyone, someone, volunteer to be my on-line pen pal??
I live way out in the country and there are no fabric stores or classes anywhere around. I'm sure I have everything I need except a kick in my arse.

    ANYONE?

Take a seat, grab a cuppa coffee, and take a deep breath. We all will be your online mentors for sure. Why not show a picture of some of the gender-neutrals you bought and let us help you come up with a pattern.

Just choose an easy beginner pattern and you'll do just fine.

Okay, I've always wanted to live "Over the Rainbow" - so then I'll volunteer a bit . . . not sure I'm the best mentor for you 'cuz I don't know boys. BUT, we're all here to help you out.

Don't have any. Unless you want pics of my jelly rolls, charm packs, yardage ......so embarrassing. Just AFTER "The Gender Revelation" I have bought:

Jelly Rolls: Story Time, ?Dream Time, (Riley's) Sarsaparilla, A Pirate one, One with mixed Brown dots and stuff, Play Time, Bloom Crazy <-----I guess that one was for me
Charm Packs: 2 Sarsaparilla, 2 Play Time, 1 Windham "wee ones", white ones, pastels
Yardage: Lots of white, yellow, blue, polka Dots, Sassparilla misc., (moda): Here Boy, Bloom Crazy, ZooFari[/LIST](Riley), Stuff with bugs, stuff with cars ...... heck of a lot more.
    Backing: of various kinds
    Thread: a rainbow
3 sewing machine: set up with white

Not to mention all the girly stuff...
    ....need I go on?
    This is awful!
    Please be kind.

I've watched the video several times then ran to my computer and bought more stuff.

    Okay.
First I want to make a small crib blanket.
I'll admit my favorites are the Riley Sarsaparilla and Pirates so I'll hang on to that and ruin something else first.

Okay so a crib is about 2 charm packs.
Put your favs to the side and pick 2 that you can part with.

I don't know your expertise but maybe starting with something simple like laying out the squares and sewing them back together.
or perhaps a disappearing 4 patch? or 9 patch?
