    Irons??

I'd like to get some feedback on your favorite irons for quilters? The reviews are all over the board, and I'd just like to know your thoughts. Thanks in advance.

I've got my eye on the Oliso that Jenny uses. I think we use a cheap GE iron at the moment. It doesn't steam very well.

I couldn't justify an expensive iron like Jenny uses when I got one on sale for only $4.99. JCY

I will never buy another Rowenta iron as long as I live. Mine have all leaked eventually.... I will be following this thread to see what others have to say.

I always buy a Black & Decker.... Not expensive, works well, and lasts... I 'd rather spend what little money I have on fabric, than on an expensive iron... But... That's just me...

See....I'm the same way. I've seen reviews for the one Jenny uses, and they aren't very good. Rowenta even have several complaints that they leak.

I have a Rowenta that I got in a Sam's Club online auction (cheaper than regular price). It seems to work fine. I rarely use steam though; I usually just spray on a little bit of Best Press.

I am again taking back my Black and Decker Professional Steam iron it died this morning. I've only had this one just under three month but is the third iron in 6 months. Tomorrow I'll be back at Wal-Mart exchanging. This one cost about $30.00 , I am scared to spend anymore because the just don't seem to last.

I bought a travel size Rowenta a few months ago and it is perfect on a TV tray next to my machine.

I had an oliso. It lasted about a year before it spewed water everywhere. I have a $40 something or other now. I bought the same one that's at my quilt shop because it does an awesome job. It gets hot enough and has a lot of steam.

Even the expensive ones seem to have issues after awhile. No matter what brand of iron I have tried, it has leaked eventually. I can't see spending a lot of money on one for that reason. Before it started leaking, I liked my Shark the best. I have also tried dry irons and they don't seem to get hot enough. I'm back to the leaky steam iron for now. It's almost time for a new one. Now the first feature I look for is one with a longer cord.

Why do they only spit dirty water on light color fabrics???

I swear by my Rowenta. Those who have trouble with their Rowenta leaking is almost always because of using the wrong type of water in them. Distilled water should not be used in Rowentas. This is my second Rowenta - the first one was stolen at a quilting retreat (so sad about that). I have read some good reviews on Reliable irons. I have an older Panasonic steam iron that I use when I use fusible web.

I've had a tefal steam generator for years for general ironing and never had any trouble with it, so I bought an ordinary tefal iron for my sewing room a few weeks ago. So far it has been great, and a definite improvement on the little cheapy one I was using. It was on sale from about £47 I think to £26, then even further reduced to £18 at the till.
I think you need a good iron for sewing work whatever you are doing.
