I would suggest talking to people who do what you're interested in. Find out the good and the bad parts of their jobs. I think it takes a patient, caring person to work with the elderly.

My dad is in a nursing home with Parkinsons/Alzheimer Disease. My parents live in a rural area and my mom lives an hour from where my dad is and it's hard for her to go everyday so she hired a "companion" to visit him on the days she cannot be there.

It works out wonderful for both my mom & dad. She was getting so worn out by trying to get there everyday to see dad and until she was told about the "companion program".

There is no medical work at all. This lady reads to him, goes for walks, and generally just visits with him on the days Mom isn't there.

Perhaps contact local senior nursing homes in your area to see if this is available. I know what a blessing this lady has been to my mom.
