    Default A work around......Tracing a design

Long time no posts...but I thought I would share my dilemma today.

I'm in the quilting stage of my daughter's TARDIS (Dr. Who) quilt and 4 of the door panels are to have Gallifreyan language as the quilt motif. (Gallifreyan is a geometric lettering alphabet comprised mostly of circles and lines)

Anyhow...I really wanted to quilt "in the hoop" using my Singer Futura and import the needed graphic in through the Autopunch software. But it really was not behaving well.....

So - after much computer frustration I went with a far less technical method and used the graphic on my computer screen as a lightbox, taped tracing paper over it and traced out the designs instead.

My plan now is to attach the paper to the area I plan to quilt and FMQ following the lines right thru the paper and then tear it away. It may not be as perfect as the machine could have done, but heck I gotta get this done somehow.

anyhow - just sharing the idea of tracing right from the screen. :-)

Clever idea! Thanks for that tip! I think I will be able to use it myself, since I don't have an embroidery machine. Did you piece your Tardis or are you using a panel? Love the Gallifreyan designs I've seen on others' quilts and I want to hide some of that in the quilting I do for a modern quilt I am making for my son, a huge Dr. Who fan. A full on Tardis quilt wouldn't fit in his decor, but I know he will like the special touch in his quilt.
