    Default Quilt sizes??

I was wondering about the different size quilts. Cot, lap, bed...they make sense to me but I see a lot that are really odd sizes and I can't see the point in them.

What other uses are there for these odd sizes, apart from wall hangings?

I made a picnic quilt that was square and a table topper for Christmas that was square. Too small for a lap quilt. Don't remember the exact measurements.

Lap quilts? Yes, wall hangings, folded on the end of the bed, draped on my antique sewing machines . . . table cloths (yes, lovely), - I don't think I have but maybe on standard-sized quilt that adheres to the 'guidelines'.

A small quilt can also be used in a stroller or carseat, where the bulk of a crib size quilt would be too much. Throw quilts can be a variety of sizes - mostly made to fit a specific person or use. To cover up with when watching TV - wouldn't want to drag your king sized quilt out for that. My dogs have their own quilts, geared toward the size of the dog. Spike has a small one, but it's big enough for him to burrow under to sleep. Ginger has one about the size of a crib quilt because she's a bigger dog.

It's all up to your imagination what you use your quilts for.

Thanks. The main reason I'm asking is because I want to carry on quilting, but I don't want to make dozens of wall hangings or bed quilts lol. I just need some ideas. I don't know enough people that I could make things to gift, so mostly they will be for myself.

I have some odd sized quilts that get used for a multitude of things. I always have two in the back seat of my car because my grandsons can create a mess out of nothing (or are tired and need a snuggle), and well, you never know when a quilt might come in handy.

Thank you. I like the idea of a quilt in the car.

I have table runners of all kinds of sizes and shapes, wall hangings, quilt in the car, lap quilts, bed quilts, bed runners, my cat has a quilt. Nothing is *standard* size. I make them to fit the individual or place or they are what ever they come out. If you want to keep your quilting going you can always make quilts to donate, we have several good groups here, or do it locally.

I love that quilts come in all shapes and sizes (Much like people!) It gives every one a distinct personality of it's own. I think if the goal at the beginning is to cover a certain area and you achieve that goal then you've succeeded.

Embrace the quilt you make to be it's own unique creation, whether it be large, or small, wide or narrow.
And remember Art is art, whether it has a functional purpose or not.

    :-)

I'm about through my own family list of "gifting quilts" so now I am on to creating what I want and perhaps sell them or collect them up until there is a enough to sell.

I just love the process and hopefully someone will love the product.
