Default RAWR! My son's request this morning.

My son is 17. This morning he comes to my bedroom as I am trying desperately to drag myself out of bed to tell me that he "has no grey pants". Puzzled I ask him why he needs such a thing.
After much discussion and interrogation it is discovered that his drafting teacher requested LAST WEEK that his students wear grey pants for the competition they are attending today on a field trip. (but of course he waits until this morning to tell me)
He went to school wearing khakis and a polo because last time I checked my credentials I did not graduate from Hogwarts School of Magic.

    UGH!!!!!!!

Don't you just love those "morning of" requests....I need 600 cupcakes by lunchtime...I told the teacher you would make all the costumes for the play on Friday....today is picture day and I REALLY wanted to wear a blue sweater...I volunteered you to be the chaperone on our field trip today.... Oh, the joys of being Mom! And when you're sitting on the other side of that time...when you kids are all grown...you actually miss the mornings they say "It's our turn to bring the snack for 30 girls at this afternoon's soccer game!"

At least we would have time to get some after soccer practice. Big cost too as I seem to remember the guys going though dozens and dozen of cut up oranges. So true that those frustrating last minute requests are kind of forgotten when your kids are married and complaining about their kids' last minute requests.

Listening to our kids complain about last minute requests from their kids? I just call that entertainment!

at 17 - that falls squarely on his shoulders... good learning lesson for him (hopefully). Just make sure you don't feel guilty about it!

Ahhh fond memories. One of my dd's always asked me to hem or fix something 1/2 hour before school. Now she owns three sewing machines. Who would of thunk?

my boys were active in the band program and I was forever being volunteered by them. The one that I loved was the "gee mom, I told Doctor Newton that you could make a cover for the marimba before we took it on the trip to wherever.... She has the fabric and the thread already..." Yeah, I know why she had JUST the fabric and thread....that thing was a monster to cover.....

You're right tho. I do miss those days of rush and bother. I made you feel part of your child's life...and that they were confident that you would help out in a jam...

Hopefully, he'll think ahead next time, but maybe not. These lessons often take a while to sink in. Honestly, I bailed my girls out one too many times. I should've let them fail more often. It would have been better for them. They've had to grow up a lot with Joe and me out of the country for so long. No mommy and daddy there to come to the rescue. They've had to really step up to the plate.

Sometimes when they took care of their needs themselves it didn't always turn out OK. DS#2 needed his white and green football uniform for next day's game and I wasn't home at the time. He decided to wash and dry it him self, did operate the washing machine OK but he knew I used bleach to get the mud stains out so he liberally poured some into the machine. Problem was he never looked into the machine beforehand as I had some dark cushion covers in there that I was going to wash later that night. Well, he did have a clean and dry uniform without my help and I had some clean and very much lighter green cushion covers.

I hear some version of this story from my daughter.....the mother of four sons.....all the time.... So frustrating, but oh so typical.. Especially with teens... I can chuckle, because I'm their grandmother.... I don't have to conjur up cupcakes, popcorn, grey pants... You name it....
