Is this enough Quilting for my quilt?

I am making a zig zag baby quilt (using rectangles, not triangles) and didn't feel up to the task of quilting the actual zig zags with my machine. I have finished all the diagonals going one direction, and kind of like the way it looks. My question is, do you think it's ok to just do the diagonals one direction (visually and for strength and durability)? Or do I need to do the diagonals the other direction, too (to make squares).

I used a Warm and White batting, which is rated to 10" and the stitches in rows are 3" apart.

I think you are probably fine on the amount of quilting you've done, especially since it is 3" apart on Warm & White. As long as you are happy with the way it looks, I'd call it done!

Your quilt is beautiful and the colors are awesome. I really like it, however, call me a nervous nin. I know that you used the warm&white, but I'd be nervous about the long span across the diagonal of the quilt, which would be the whole length with no stitching in-between, not even the 10" recommended for W&W. I would also go the other way diagonally to insure that the batting doesn't bunch up or separate after it's washed. JMHO, hope no one gets mad.

I love it. Its really pretty. I like how the quilting looks but I have to agree with sharynj. What you can do is for the other way do the lines a bit further apart to make it look lie rectangles instead of squares. I think that would look great and you would have less lines to do that way.

After all that work on the quilt, for me, I am leary it will bunch.

To possibly alleviate any worries about the long diagonal span, like Sharon mentioned ...

I have made both of my dogs their own quilt. I did a quilt as you go strip method, so the quilting holding the batting down is only going one way and the strips were all 4 or 5 inches wide. I used Warm & White. Those quilts have been washed almost weekly for over 2 years now, scratched up with dogs claws trying to get their beds just right, barfed on and all the other things our furry friends tend to do and neither quilt has experienced any bunching of the batting.

I still think your quilt will be just fine with what quilting you have done.

Sharyn, I tend to agree with you. I'd be afraid of the batting separating as you said or bunching up. Jenny, I think I would go diagonally the other direction as well. As Sharyn said...just my honest opinion. Pat

In my opinion, the quilting needs to be closer. There is too much space without quilting. Check the recommendations for your batting. The Hobbs 80/20 I use says stitching needs to be at least 4" apart. I love the color combo & how nicely your quilt turned out. JCY

Sure... You can safely quilt ten inches apart with the ?Warm batts. I never do, but it does give you some wiggle room.
