Default New and a question about borders

hi, new here and so glad to have found this wonderful source of info! I'm not only new here, but new to quilting in general. I was wondering if somebody could help with a question. I am making a 4-block quilt (twin size) and I want to make an inner border of 1" and outer border of 6". Can you tell me how wide I should cut the pieces I need? thank you in advance!

The inner border should be cut 1.5 inches and the outer border 6.5 inches. You should use a 1/4 inch seam when sewing it together including on your outer binding.

Always add 1/2" to the size you want..4" block = 4 1/2 x 4 1/2..That gives you 1/4" seam allowance on all sides...same for borders and slashing.

Why don't you get yourself something to drink and sit down and watch some of Jenny's basic tutorials:

What they all said about adding a half inch to the finished size to allow for 2-1/4" seams. Welcome to the forum.
