Default Which White/Cream shall I buy?

One picture is worth a thousand words, but in this case that is not true! I am trying to give quilters a comparison of the whites/creams that are available in precuts, and the pictures just don't do the job. If I had a photography studio with good lighting, that would be the way to go, but alas, my photography studio space is filled with sewing machines and fabric stash. So, I got all of my precut white/cream fabrics out, and lined them up from the brightest white to the deepest cream. I think I have all of the colors that MSQC sells in this array. Here is a description of the colors, as well as what SKU numbers I could find.

From Left to Right: RJR Cotton Supreme Optical white--this is the brightest white of the collection, goes more to a blue/white. Use with your brightest colors when you want an outstandingly white white. 7400-59 Charm

Kona Cotton White Color story--a very bright white also, not quite as brilliant of a white as the RJR, but very good. SS-120-40 charm, 190-40 Roll Up (Jelly Roll) , Ten 122-42 Layer Cake, CHS 120-42 Charm

Bella Solid White by Moda--a bit duller of a white, has a little greyish tint to it. Very useful all around white 9900-PP-98 charm, 9900JR-98 Jelly Roll

Kona Snow--this has a little yellow tint to it, it is a very good choice to go with slightly creamy prints.
TEN-121-42 Layer cake, RU 189-40 Roll UP

Moda Bella Porcelain--a grey white. Think porcelain like in the bathroom fixtures! Good choice when a bright white or yellow white won't work
    9900LC 182 -42 Layer cake, 9900JR 182 Jelly Roll

Windham Ivory basics--comes in 10" squares, jelly rolls and charms, and in fat quarters. These are tone on tone whites that tend toward grey/white. There are some darker fabrics in this, but all are in the white/natural colorway.

RJR Cotton Supreme French Vanilla--looks like French vanilla ice cream! Good yellowish cream. 7400-58 Pixie Strip (Jelly Roll, 7400-57 10" squares

Moda Snow--this is so confusing because one would think this would be similar to the Kona Snow. IT IS NOT! It is a really yellowish cream. If you look at the pictures on the website quilt shop, you can see how different the colors are between the different precuts. I would say it matches the less yellow of the pictures. Really needs to be paired with something that is darker in the brown tones, IMHO!

Moda Natural--A nice natural color, like a light tan. Good with Civil War, Kansas Troubles, fabrics with a tan tone in it. 9900 JR 12 Jelly Roll, 9900 12 LC Layer Cake, no description of any kind on the charm square pack.

I hope this helps you to decide what white/cream/natural might work with your fabric. I think photographs are quite deceptive. Many of you call the shop to ask for advice on this. Maybe my descriptions can help you decide what to purchase.

I'm going to save this post in my user notes for future reference.

Thanks Jean for all that info. I for one am very confused when it comes to choosing "whites". How do you save to your user notes? If I want to keep something I bookmark the page as that is all I know how to do.
