Default Do you use software for designing quilts?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone uses software that helps with designing quilt layouts, and for me, color placement.

Here is a link to a search that lists them.

--> Software for laying out quilt blocks

    Do you use them?

Thank you in advance for your replies...

No but I do use this website:

    mywebquilter.com

I just have so many "wanna makes" and "UFO's" already that I don't need any right now beyond that website, graph paper and the advice on this forum. I someday hope to have the latest and greatest EQ version.

I have used Electric Quilt 7. It's a bit clunky, but very powerful. In other words, once you learn how to use it you can do a lot, but learning how to use it is no small task.

I would love to have something to help me design quilts - right now its scratch paper for ideas, then a lot of UFO's making what I want hahhaha Some times I'll make a Table then use Paint to test the colors

Oh I love that website Lisa!! Like you say, more ideas for quilts than time to make them all.

How hard is that software? Not point and click to learn it sounds? Do other versions work with Windows 7? Maybe ebay has some for less expensive since it's hard to use? hmm what I do instead o sewing :-) Wander the internet

Good luck I'd love it have it some day

We purchased EQ7 a few weeks ago. Right now my husband is using it to design his quilt and has found it very powerful. There is a learning curve but both my husband and I are IT people and have used quite a few draw programs so we haven't found it terribly difficult. I machine appliqued 12 wild flowers for his quilt and he was able to scan them in and then try them out with different fabrics for the sashes and borders. Really cool. It also gave us the fabric requirements. I am new to quilting and think it will be helpful for trying out different fabric combinations because that it my weak area.

I looked at EQ and the thing that attracted me was that it also worked out how much fabric was needed to complete your designs. It this usual in other software or just an EQ thing?

There are lots of design programs out there!

    You can try
paint.net or Gimp. Both are free programs you can use for designing quilts.

Here's a tutorial using Microsoft Word to design blocks: Designing Quilts using Microsoft Word

Here's an online Quilter's Design Board.

There was a discussion about this earlier this year:
    http://forum.missouriquiltco.com/qui...g-program.html

actually, there have been several. here are more responses to this question:
