Default Need quilting advice for a BIG Applecore quilt

I purchased the BIG Applecore template from MSQC and have cut out blocks for a lap sized quilt. My question is how to quilt it once the piecing is finished? I do NOT have Free Motion Quilting skills. My sewing machine does have a walking foot. I am thinking about echoing both sides of each curving vertical seam two or three times... I just don't know if that will be sufficient or attractive. I can't afford to have it quilted by a long arm service and would truly like to complete the entire quilt by myself

Does anybody have any quilting advice for this project? Has anybody finished one of these quilts and have any tips or advice for me???

The applecore blocks will finish at approx. 9.25" long by 5" in the middle and 8.25" wide at the top & bottom of the core. I plan to use Warm & White batting which will permit stitching up to 10" apart.

Thanks for any advice you can supply!

Hi Kaleda and a warm welcome from Switzerland.

If I do a quilt with a very warm batting, I try to quilt very less that the quilt stays soft. I would SITD, that shows the applecore pattern very well. Just an idea. I am sure you will get many more ideas from our helpful members.

It is much easier, if you post a Picture from the layed out pieces. Could you do it?

Please don't shoot me for this link.... It may be too much information, but I'm just beginning to use the stencils for quilting and thought I'd share the information.

I'd echo quilt approx 1" inside every apple core

Something I've done before, being a newbie quilter, is make a single block sandwich it and test out how I'd like to quilt it. It worked when I was uncertain on which thread to use on a project too.

I'm doing one too. I'm almost to the quilting part, I have researched how others have quilted apple core quilts and honestly the one I thought looked the best was this one http://m.pinterest.com/pin/533958099541193258/ it's very easy and can be done in continuous lines

Thank you Davidsgirl08. The circles are quite nice. However, circles would not be continuous and I'd rather not have to stop & start with each circle. Unless... it's sewn like a double helix. One curved SITD line following the arches of the applecores and another curved line opposing the applecore arches. I've seen that done on Cathedral Windows and Pickledish quilts. Food for thought. Thanks again. Kathleen

I think quilting a test block is an EXCELLENT suggestion. I haven't decided on the thread yet, and this will help me with that choice as well.
