    Red face borders

I was wondering if someone can help me. I just finished a quilt that is 63.5 x 76. I need to know how many 4" strips I need to cut to go around this quilt. Thanks Carol

Approximately 7 strips (using 42 inches as WOF) if you are wanting pieced borders. If you're not wanting to have pieced borders but do want to have them in one piece you will want at least 2 and 1/3 yards of material.

Well, Carol, the total distance around your quilt is 63.5+63.5+76+76 = 279 inches If you are cutting from a 44" width fabric, you would need 279 divided by 44 or 6.35 pieces of fabric in your 4 inch strips. So, round that up to 7 pieces. 7 x 4 = 28" so you would need 28 inches of fabric - allowing a bit to trim up evenly, I would get 7/8 yard of fabric for your border.

Thanks for the lesson Sandy. I heard how to do it once but it was said so fast I didn't get it. You taking the time to put it out there really helps. Thank you. Hugs, Jan
