Default Queen sized layer cake quilt pattern

Hi My name is Devon. I'm 15 years old and new to quilting. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good pattern for a queen sized quilt using layer cakes?

Hi, Devon. Welcome from Maryland! Have you seen this tutorial? I just bought a batik layer cake, and I plan to give it a try.

The Double Slice is an easy one to start with: you may need more than one layer cake for a queen size though.

Welcome Devon from Illinois. Starting out with a queen size is quite ambitious. As a beginner, you may find that size to be difficult to handle; however, I don't want to put a damper on your plans.

Jenny has a layer cake tutorial that is very simple and would uses 1 layer cake. You would have to add borders to get it big enough for a queen size. Her video shows scalloped borders, but that can easily be changed to straight borders.

I also think that the Double Slice is an easy pattern. Just be sure that you mix up your fabrics a bit and have the cut fabrics lined up exactly as jenny demonstrates in order to get it right. (Ask me how I know.)
The Alter Ego quilt is also very nice and would be easy for you. I believe you'd have to use part of a second layer cake and make additional blocks plus add some borders for queen size.

Hi Devon! I'd say the Double Slice Layer Cake pattern as well. The finished quilt gives the appearance of being a lot harder than it actually is.

Like others said, a queen sized quilt is pretty hard to handle on a home sewing machine once you get to the quilting process. Piecing it should go fine. Good luck in whatever you decide.

I love the fabric in that video. I'm trying to find it in Australia (unfortunately postage from MO is prohibitive.)
