Default One for Dad, One for Mom, and One for Me

My parents both have birthdays in the Summer. I decided to make them each a lap quilt for reading and watching TV as they do alot of both. My sweet mother is slipping just a bit, into demensia and I wanted her to have this in her life for a long time, before she can't remember who gave it to her.

My dad loves Cobalt Blue, was in the Navy, served in the South Pacific and loves the out doors. His grandmothers used to make huge crochet table cloths and quilts and many fine hand made pieces to give as gifts. He will appreciate the hand quilting on his quilt.

My mother was a seamstress all her life and sewed for her large family from suits to wedding gowns. {Mine she made from a handful of photographs, it was her first, and I wasn't there to try it on until 2 days before the wedding! It was fabulous, fit great and she is my hero!!!] SHE will appreciate the dresdens and the varied decorative machine stitches I used to quilt it with. My sister told me this weekend, that my mom hasn't sewn for a few years because her arthritis is so bad in her hands and shoulders. She went to the fabric store and purchased some flannel to make some comfy PJ pants for she and my dad. She stood looking at her machine and couldn't remember how to use it, how to cut out a pattern, not any of it. It about broke my heart to hear that. This was truly a labor of love for both parents. They aren't perfect, but they were my very best from my limited skill set.

The final one is a Falling Charms [top only so far] made with Calico Candies which I fell in love with. I hope I am keeping this one. Thanks for looking.

Sheri - those are all beautiful. That is so sad about your mom. I know it breaks your heart to see her go through this. At least she will be able to appreciate your beautiful work for a while. Be sure to take a photo of her with it and your dad with his, too. It will provide you with a special memories for the rest of your life. Many blessings.

What great work! I am sure your parents will be thrilled, what a nice gift you have made for each of them.
Quilts may come, and quilts may go, but the stitches stay the same.
