Some of you have asked what pattern am I using for my DD's quilt. Here is how I am doing it. I will do my best to make it easy.
My materials: 1 layer cake, 1 jelly roll, and 2 yrds. white fabric
1) I took a Layer Cake and cut it into 4ths so I would have 4 - 5"squares from each.
2) I cut my white fabric into 2 1/2" x 42" strips
3) Open up the white strip and begin sewing one 5" square to the same strip, 1 at a time as seen below in fig. 1. Press towards the dark. Do this for each side of each sq.

4) Open the Jelly Roll, separate by color. Open a strip and begin sewing your new blocks the same way as step 3. (So, there will be a 5" sq., the white, then the color strip from the JR. See fig. 2. Chain stitch and repeat all 4 sides.
Tutorial Block.jpg(fig. 2) It should look something like this. Cut 4 ways as seen here.
4) After cutting each block 4 ways, turn them like in fig. 3
Tutorial block2.jpg Fig. 3
5) Arrange them how you want. This is how I did it. Making sure there was an opening on the left, as seen in fig. 4 below, I went in a downward direction like packman or running water. I made sure each row was symmetrical as in fig. 4 and fig. 5.
Tutorial Block 3.jpg(Fig. 4) Enter, towards downward direction on left end.
Jordan's quilt.jpg (fig. 5) upward direction to exit on right end.
I hope this is understandable as I've not done a tutorial of any kind like this before. Sorry for the lengthy instructions. Once this quilt is complete, it will fit a queen size bed. I have 6 - 11 3/4" blocks going across and 7- 8 rows down. I've not completed this quilt, so not sure on how many doing down yet.
