I think it is fantastic! Really! The background does not look dirty at all. I have found that once I finish a top, quilt it, bind it, and then put it away out of sight for a month, then take it out, I look at it with a whole new set of eyes.

I think it's absolutely beautiful -- the background fabric looks like a pretty grey batik to me. I think it's stunning and your son will treasure it forever. It's awesome that he took an interest in your hobby and asked you to make him a quilt and participated in choosing the pattern and fabric. My son also asked me to make him a quilt and chose the fabric (all solids) and pattern and wanted it very large (he's tall). Just think -- every time he bundles up in that quilt he'll know that his mom made it for him.

Think of how happy you're making your son with every stitch you sew! To me, the backing looks like marble or stone. It's going to be a great quilt and he's going to think you're Super MOM!

I'll be honest. I made a joke awhile back that I don't like pointy designs. But that is just me,lol. I think if he loves it that's all that matters. It's beautiful work and you put so much into it. Sashing doesn't sound like a bad idea.

It looks nice to me. Go on and finish it. Your son will love it. I felt the same about a quilt I just finished. My daughter was very happy with it. As som wise person told me, "Its just not your taste, but it is a pretty quilt."

It looks very nice to me. Perhaps you're just used to looking at brighter batiks. This is a nice color combination and has a more subdued look than the brights. It's perfect and the background is mellow enough for your blocks to pop. Nice job on the points too. I'm sure you will like it when it's finished and knowing that your son loves it is the important thing.

Sometimes, we have to work outside our comfort zones and color is one of them for me. I really like the quilt, but the most important thing is that your son likes the quilt!

You are SOOOO close to being done with the piecing. Just 2 more blocks. YOU CAN DO IT. I agree with the others that it does not look dirty at all. It's a stoney neutral and quite masculine. Your son is a lucky boy with good taste. If you really don't like the background, you could use a variegated thread to quilt over it and it would camouflage some of it.

I have melt-downs when I have to work in high-contrast colors. Black/white/red drives me nuts.
