    Default Zipper Fear

I am so zipper fobic maybe because I just have never done one..a few questions:
    1. Do I have to use a zipper foot?
    2. can it be cut and shortened if need be or do you buy the exact size you need?

Please help me get over this fear..I would love to do a bag with a zipper pocket and top closure..I just did the Text bag group and think the bag could have been much better if I wasnt so afraid of zippers
These things, I warmly wish for you-
Someone to love, some work to do,
    A bit'o sun, a bit'o cheer.
And a guardian angel always near.

I was taught with a zipper foot and don't know why anyone would try it wihout the zipper foot. It makes it much easier if it is even possible without the foot.

It depends on what kind of zipper you buy, a metal teeth one has to be the right size and you can't cut it. A nylon one like in Jean's tote tutorial is very easy to cut.

There is nothing to fear. For what you are talking about you should try to do a tote with a nylon zipper like in Jean's tutorial and conquer that fear.

You can cut a nylon zipper. You just need to stitch over the end to secure and then cut off. Crafty Gemini has a couple tutorials that should help you.

Shannon, I used Crafty Gemini tutorial to get over my fear of zippers...now they are pretty much a piece of cake....sometimes when I haven't done one in awhile I will watch again to make sure I don't put in upside down but beyond that it is pretty easy...definitely need a zipper foot!

I'm also a zipper fobic. I've put it one and of course I did it wrong. I've since watched some tutorials on how to do it, but of course, I've yet to try it again.

You are not alone. I am afraid of zippers, too.

The only way to conquer your fear is to have a go. Buy a cheap zipper and use some scrap fabric, it's really not a hard one to master

    Good suggestion Pami!
It's easy to forget many quilters did not start out garment sewing like many of us.
