Default How I practice with the stencil

I layed the stencil on a piece of printer paper and traced the design with a pencil, then I took the thread out of the needle and used just the printer paper to practice the design and get the hang of how to move the paper around.I think I can just keep sewing on the same piece another time or two. It saves you from having to sandwich your fabric just to practice. Then when you get the hang of it you can practice on scrap material.
If you click on the picture you can see where it is very easy for the needle to jump when you don't control the paper or fabcic.I got a bit tired or distracted then the needle was just going off the lines. So it is a good way to learn how to move your paper or fabric around.Hope this might help someone else who wants to try but leary. All you loose is a piece of paper if you mess up.

Thank you, Ann. I love learning from veteran quilters such as yourself. You are a blessing!

SewPerfect, Thank you for the compliment but I certainly am not a veteran all.I am just learning like a lot of others on this forum.
But if I can help someone with what little knowledge I have I am glad.

Thank you Grannyann, I've been having no end of trouble getting that rhythm thing going. Going to try your hint today and can already see how helpful its going to be. Brilliant idea!

If you can manage it on paper, doing it on a sandwich quilt will be a snap. I've done a bit on paper and actually find it harder to move around than a quilt.

Looks great. If you did it on a quilt, no one can see if you get off lines. I practice that way too.
