    Default Hi from Western Maryland

Just joined this forum today. Looking forward to meeting some fellow quilters and seeing what everyone is doing. Also thinking about a new machine and looking for advice on what I should buy.

Welcome! I recently upgraded from a very basic brother machine.

I love my Janome Magnolia ($399)! I have a picture of it using serger thread (It's such a great trick!) on amazon, in addition to my review with the additional feet I purchased for Free Motion Quilting abilities!

It is computerized, and I know that maintenance for it may be more expensive but I haven't had any problems so far. Just be sure to clean it once in awhile (:

One day I will upgrade again to a fancier (longer armed) machine, but it will do for now. I did machine quilt my purple quilt on it (twin-size) and it was a chore, but it did work! I'd suggest it better for smaller quilts though

Enjoy and happy hunting for your new toy!

Welcome from southeast Georgia. I love vintage machines and have about 15 of those. Each one is set up for a different function, so I really use all of those. For my embroidery, I have a Janome and love it. If I was buying a new machine, I would definitely get a Janome. If I just wanted one to quilt on, I would look at vintage Singers!

I also have a Janome and love it. I was talking to a lady at a dealer and she suggested the new Elna because it is made by Janome. Which model Elna do you have lilmouse? She says there is one so new that it isn't even on the website yet. I may try it out on Friday. I was also considering a Baby Lock Crescendo. I'm sure Baby Locks are good quality machines but I love my Janome so much that I hesitate changing.
