How many charms packs?
Good Morning!
I know you all have answered this many times, how many charms packs do I need for a couch thow quilt? I want to do a disappearing nine patch. Then how do I calculate the yardage for binding and border? I am not a math whiz so this is difficult for me. I am getting back into quilting and I need to relearn many things. I have gone to the moda website and that is confusing for me. I must not be reading it correctly....I feel a little embarassed asking probably such a simple question!

Re: How many charms packs?
I recommend you buy three charm packs. It can be done with two packs if you add borders, but it's nice to have the flexibility to choose the fabrics you like best and also play with the layout. After sewing all your charms together into large 9 patch blocks and slicing those large blocks into 4 smaller blocks, you will end up with 56 blocks (if your charm packs have 42 squares). You could lay your blocks out 7x8 and add a border to get a very nice size throw!

Re: How many charms packs?
personally i'd go for 4 charm packs, i dont think 3 is anywhere near enough for a throw...and instead of buying 4 charm packs, you buy one layer cake and cut it into quarters, much cheaper...considering 1 layer cake barely makes a decent throw, once you lose heaps more in seams you would need the 4 charm packs
cheers, pami
