    Re: Rotary Cutter Lives Matter

Since we've shared our innermost souls . . . if and when I get too old, loose my screws, wobble on my pins . . . and am relegated to the Rotary Cutters Home for the aged . . . I'll be looking for all...
  2. Re: Another day of Quilting . . . and this 'thread' is all about 'thread'!!

So much good advice and information - a storehouse of knowledge here . . . thanks everyone and especially to Sharyn J for valuable info.

I do want to give feedback on my quilting last night. ...

    Re: Rotary Cutter Lives Matter

If you think you 'cutters' have it bad, this 'cutter' was used by my mamm's granddaughter. Do you know how reckless and carefree an 18 year old is - I was afraid she was going to use me to cut her...

Re: AGAIN . . . looking for Quilting Advice

    pcbatiks, I hear ya . . .

. . I have a 1952 Kenmore SM, named Mary Pauline after my mother (since that's a similar machine to the one I remember her using when I was a kid). She does a...

Re: AGAIN . . . looking for Quilting Advice

Mostly JCY, thanks for sharing - guess that's what it's all about . . . . connecting with other quilters, learning (and, at my age, sometimes forgetting and asking again!!) and having fun with a...
  6. Re: Another day of Quilting . . . and this 'thread' is all about 'thread'!!

My Juki thought on this issue - I'm using the Juki F600 . . and basically I love this machine - - - BUT on this Juki, she's Hazel in my sewing room, both the primary and secondary spool holders are...
  7. Re: Another day of Quilting . . . and this 'thread' is all about 'thread'!!

Thanks Donna - I thought about that except the 'thread keeper slit' of the spool is on the other side and with other threads I have had trouble with the thread catching in the slit and breaking . ....
  8. Re: Another day of Quilting . . . and this 'thread' is all about 'thread'!!

Thanks ladies - - the suggestion of using a stand or vertical pin instead of the horizontal pin I'm now using is worth a try. Also Lori may be on to something with the thread net. This thread is so...
  9. Re: Another day of Quilting . . . and this 'thread' is all about 'thread'!!

Never heard of thread netting - but it makes sense since this crazy thread doesn't seem to come off the spool neatly like normal thread, it kinda mushrooms out which is probably why it's hanging up...
  10. Another day of Quilting . . . and this 'thread' is all about 'thread'!!

    I'm working on a t-shirt quilt for/with my DGD
. . . and we're using 'invisible thread' on the top of the quilt and a gray poly thread for the back/bobbin . . . when it works the invisible thread...

Re: AGAIN . . . looking for Quilting Advice

First, I have to say . . . if Lori63 is 'clueless' then I'm 'as dumb as they come'. Sometimes you just can't see the forest for the trees!

Now, let me say thank JCY and Lori . . . JCY after...

Re: AGAIN . . . looking for Quilting Advice

Thank you pcbatiks - this quilting stuff is hard to explain, huh? However, you seem to understand my query.

As I stitch down alongside a block (yes, pulling up my bobbin thread and stitch a...

AGAIN . . . looking for Quilting Advice

A few of you have given me advice for a few weeks now as I have been helping my DGD making a t-shirt quilt . . . and believe it or not, we're at the quilting stage - - walking foot, straight line...
  14. Re: A 'chunk' missing from my batting . . . is making me 'batty'!

Thanks Sylvia - hopefully we'll soon know how this worked out . . we should be quilting over the weekend! Fingers crossed!
  15. Re: A 'chunk' missing from my batting . . . is making me 'batty'!

Thanks for the tip Snowbird. Actually I've never heard of a machine that does felting - no thread, just needle-punched together - very interesting! I watched several YT vids . . . seems a nice...
  16. Re: A 'chunk' missing from my batting . . . is making me 'batty'!

Thanks grammaterry - - there's no end to what we'll do for Grands, huh?

So we've plunged in . . . to see how it goes. After spray basting we barely have an inch of batting top and bottom . . 3"...
  17. Re: A 'chunk' missing from my batting . . . is making me 'batty'!

Thanks Heather . . I was thinking that sewing the perimeter could create a problem, so I agree with 'bunching up at the ends'. We plunged in today and put the sandwich together and spray basted...
  18. Re: A 'chunk' missing from my batting . . . is making me 'batty'!

Thanks Bev - - I've made a decision. Today we started putting the sandwich together keeping the extra at top and bottom even - then spray basted it together. So far, so good!
  19. Re: A 'chunk' missing from my batting . . . is making me 'batty'!

First of all, I'm jealous . . . a long arm is only a dream of mine! I have never even accomplished 'free motion quilting'. I'll be quilting on my faithful Juki F600 using a walking foot . . . . and...
  20. Re: A 'chunk' missing from my batting . . . is making me 'batty'!

After the posts of suggestions from you ladies, I'm pretty sure I can manage a patch to my batting to fill my 'missing corner.

However, now I'm wondering whether or not a 1-1/2" overlap (from...
  21. Re: A 'chunk' missing from my batting . . . is making me 'batty'!

Thanks loads ladies - - so, after the batting relaxed a bit, I put the pieces together . . folded in quarters. Fortunately for me, there seems to be more length than width > > > so if i fold the...
  22. Re: A 'chunk' missing from my batting . . . is making me 'batty'!

Sadly, I don't think so . . . I have yet to dig into some random scraps I have in my stash. Previously I have only done QSYG squares, so this is the only bed size batting I have - seems I needed an...

    Re: Bread

Been looking for alternative to 'white bread' and just checked site you reference and find that my local 'Walmart' carries Dave's Killer Bread - I'm usually in my store every week or so . . . gonna...
  24. A 'chunk' missing from my batting . . . is making me 'batty'!

So . . I've posted about helping my DGD make a tee-shirt quilt . . . . and had help from some of you 'seasoned quilters' along the way - - thank you once again . . . .

    BUT I have an...
  25. Re: A returning member > > with a Quilting Question

Sure sounds a lot like Yoga to me . . . . . I could almost picture myself getting down onto the floor . . from a chair . . to my little step stool . . to the floor. Could maybe even maneuver around...
