Re: Frolic! A Quiltville Winter Mystery! (Intro)

I have seen that you created a forum group for this project, and just joined in.
My first Bonnie Hunter Mystery was Celtic Solstice, and I learned so much in the process that I have followed all the...

    Re: Quilting a string quilt

Thanks! I like bright bold colors as background against scrappy blocks. I had taken a couple of Craftsy FMQ classes (with Angela Walters and Christina Cameli as instructors) and I had a blast trying...

Re: How to chose the quilting thread

It also depends on the fabric you used for the quilt. I generally FMQ with #40 Aurifil thread and a #80 needle but I made a quilt once that I had used fabric from homespun shirts and I used #30...

Re: Can you help ID this pattern, please?

It is the Easy Jacobs Ladder block, with sashing and cornerstones. You can easily figure it out: the block consists of 2 HSTs and 2 4Ps. I googled it and came to this pattern for sale:...

    Re: Quilting a string quilt

I don't have a LA but I have quilted a couple of string quilts on my domestic machine.
    This was the first one:

    Re: Two sided dilemma

For my aunt I made a quilt in two parts. I quilted front+thin batting, and back+ thin batting as you said because I wanted to FMQ a poem and I didn't want to see it reversed on the other side. Then I...

    Re: Friday Trivia: Typewriters

I still keep my dad's for its sentimental value. He was a journalist and I remember helping him sandwiching carbon paper so he could make several copies at once. And I am not that old! Just 45!

Can't you find anybody interested locally? You can't be the only quilter in your country! It all looks very good quality.

    Re: How to Start FMQ

I start from the center and then move clockwise. If the quilt were a dial, I would quilt the central part first, then move around the 3 o'clock area, then towards 4, 5, 6 o'clock and so on.

I am late to this discussion and hope/know everything must have been ok. I am not an English native speaker either, and neither the audience: didn't you say they came from Norway, Finland & so? All...

    Re: Tuesday Trivia: Cuba

Cuba was a Spanish province until 1898, and education already had a high consideration by then. Most schools in my area of Northwest Spain were established and maintained by emigrants from here that...

Re: So, how do you decide on a FMQ design?

I agree with the two courses Denise recommended. I also struggle with the decision part. I sometimes think it was easier when I only could meander! Knowing how the quilt will be used is a clue: there...

    Thanks for posting.

    Re: what are those called

I am foreign to the English language, but sometimes I have read women's underwear being referred to as knickers. Is it slang or an old term?

Re: Do you think it's a mouse?

Mice don't scare me, but I hate their mess in the house. They either come in to steal food, or in the Fall they look for comfy nesting places. I find plastic containers don't contain them: they can...

    Re: What is your preference?

I would say it depends on the length of the stay and how much it interferes with their daily routine. It is ok to stay 1-2 nights with friends that don't work nor have kids to take to school. I am...

Re: Serger Thread for Piecing & Quiting

Thanks for the contributions to this post. I was just given 20+ cones of serger thread in different colors and wondered if I could use any for quilting (piecing and fmq). I don't have a serger, have...

I haven't used many jellyrolls. I think my favorite pattern for them is Jenny's Sticks and Stones.

  25. Re: My first Quilt and time to do free motion quilting! Questions

Welcome to the forum! The first quilt I ever finished was a baby quilt for my niece, a few years ago! It's still being used for the dolls, now the owner has outgrown it.
