Re: Disappearing 9 patch Fabric amounts

Every time you make a quilt buy a little more
yardage than you need1/4-1/2 yard more.
This will allow you to start a fabric stash.
    Great for future scrappy quilts.

Re: Should I add a border?

I think a border would be a personal opinion.
I would lay the quilt down and lay different
fabrics along the edges so it appears to have
a border. Try different fabrics and different
    widths....
  3. Re: Mirror, Mirror" On the Wall... ( new jordan fabrics tutorial )

Great quilt pattern. I’m going to narrow my strips
and make the blocks smaller. I prefer making
lap quilts instead of the larger quilts.
I liked Donnas colored fabric better than the
    black...

    Re: Would there be interest?

I joined a block swap from another quilting forum.
The blocks I received were from cheap fabric, did not meet the
size requirement (too small) the block had not been squared.
    I received 12 blocks...

Re: Ideas for baby quilt, gender unknown

Search the Internet for free crib quilt patterns.
I always use bright solid fabrics and combined
with bright prints in red, green, orange and purples.
This color scheme works for all babies....

Re: Question about fabric used for backgrounds

I usually buy 2 yard pieces of Kona white for my
machine embroidery, a bright white for great contrast.
I usually buy 2 yard pieces of Kona snow for piecing,

    Re: Embroidery machine

My husband bought my embroidery machine for Xmas 1998.
I use my Emb. machine mainly to stitch quilt blocks for

    Re: Rag quilt

Search the Internet. I’m sure there’s enough
information to answer any questions you
    May have.
One word of caution is to never give a rag quilt to a baby
or a toddler. All the fringes are...

Iíve made several wheelchair quilts and donated

    Re: Triangles

You never cut squares that would leave bias
edges to work with. The best way to make your
Triangles with no bias edges are-
Cut your squares 1 inch bigger than your
    pattern calls for. Place two...

I’m sure you can search the Internet for

    Re: Polyester fleece blanket batting?

Polyester and cotton fabrics will shrink differently
when washed. It’s usually not a good idea to
    mix polyester and cotton fabrics.
When you say cotton sheeting do you mean you
    are going to cut...

    Re: Need a sewing machine

I have Bernina computerized machines. I would never
buy anything else. You get what you pay for.
    $200 machines are disposable machines.
They will last a couple years. Then you are

Re: Cutting my table for a drop in machine.

Be sure to put your machine as far right as you can.
You need the area to the left of your machine
As an open area for your fabric as you piece
    your quilt.

Re: Cutting my table for a drop in machine.

It may help to go to a local store that sells your machine
and look at the cutouts they have in their tables.
You may be able to make a template with a
    large piece of paper.

  22. Re: Make a "Fancy Flight" Quilt with Jenny Doan

She uses the flying geese pattern which
has been around for years. The geese are
always sewn with the vertical strips.

    for a cute border.

Re: satin binding - make or pre-made?

Satin doesn’t wear well. Baby quilts get washed a lot.
Satin binding will have to be replaced before the
quilt wears out. Works better with a fancy quilt
that will not be used/washed a lot.

    Re: Quilting

Personally I see no reason to ever use starch
at any stage of the quilting process.
Plus I would not want to add harmful
    chemicals to my fabric/quilt.
