  1. Re: Missouri* tote pattern - sturdy and simple for Sashiko

ShabbyFabrics has a nice 3 (or was it 4?) FQ tote bag tutorial. I've made it several times and it goes together rather quickly.

  2. Re: Need help - how to fix warped cutting mat? (and a warning!)

My mom warped her cutting mat by using an iron on top of it (with a pressing mat)... she wound up just having to buy a new cutting mat.
  3. Re: Shipping a quilt internationally question

That is good to know. Unfortuantely, I don't know of any adult-sized quilt that you can make for under $45 worth of fabric! Even clearance fabric is more expensive than that! Still, my friend...
  4. Re: Handi-Quilter Long Arm Retreat in the Summer?

You could also contact Cindy at MSQC since she runs the retreats.
  5. Shipping a quilt internationally question

I am debating making and sending a quilt as a gift to a friend in Canada. Unfortunately, she is having serious financial difficulties, and if I send her anything that gets custom fees added to it,...

According to her FMQ challenge facebook page, she's taking a break for a bit but will have a new site and new videos/challenges coming "soon". The post was dated July 26th.

    Re: Pinked Edges.....Grrrr

Edges are pinked to reduce unraveling. Certain fabrics are more prone than others, but cotton does still unravel. I have some 1.5" strips that were not pinked, and they unravel something awful.

Re: Rise in cotton batting prices

Most local quilt stores near me charge around $12-14 (or $13-15 for digital) for a yard of fabric. Online shops tend to be about $11-12 a yard for cotton prints. Don't get me wrong, I love it when...

    Re: Lightweight solution?

Hum... a flannel backing and no batting might be a good way to go. Might make the quilt extra soft, too. I'll have to mull that one over. Thanks for all your suggestions!

    Lightweight solution?

I have a bit of a conundrum that I hope you guys can help with.

I have a great aunt who is a polio survivor and as such she doesn't have much strength in her limbs. My mom and I made her a quilt...
  13. Re: Beta testers needed for new MSQC Shipping program

I would actually be tempted by the $50 in town credit. My mom and I do a retreat yearly. Is that actually part of the beta test now or just a hypothetical?
  14. Re: Anyone use something besides batting to quilt with?

Can you quilt without batting? My mom and I made a quilt for my great aunt but the cotton batting we used made it too heavy for her to manipulate. My mom thinks we can 'quilt' a new quilt (using...

    Fabric Depot is back???

So I just got an email from Fabric Depot saying their online store is back (now based out of St. Louis, MO?). Their site seems to be having some issues - I haven't been able to get the fabric pages...

Re: - Written patterns or not

I like cutting out all the pieces because then I can chain piece. I have learned to make a test block or 3 before I do all the cutting; though.

    Owl baby quilt pattern

Since I had a request, here's my Owl baby quilt pattern. The Prequilt app I used doesn't give counts for background squares, but I used strips rather than sewing individual squares. You...

Re: I'm Sorry Missouri Star Quilt Co. But....

We've all been spoiled by Amazon and the instantly shipped item. While I agree that the longer it takes for an item to arrive, the more frustrating it is, I don't think 11 days shipping is a...

    Re: Where is Pinkerville?

I've noticed that there is a bit of a delay from when some stores get fabric in and on their website to when MSQC gets it on their site. If something's as super trendy as Tula Pink's fabric, just...

    Re: Hanging sleeve question

Hanging sleeves are easier to attach with the binding (catch one side in the seam)... and then you hand stitch down the other side.

    Innova vs Handiquilter?

    Hi all,

I've started doing some research into Longarms. After checking out a bunch of different brands at a local quilt show, I've narrowed it down to two brands: Handiquilter and Innova. Both...
