Re: A bad case of Quilter's Block

Hula moon. I was told it is a potato chip quilt because they are so easy you can’t do just one.

Re: A bad case of Quilter's Block

Do a potato chip quilt with 2 colors. Use a third piece for the borders. Very quick quilt

    Re: Rag quilt

You definitely want to machine wash a rag quilt. This will fray those clipped seams. I would suggest going to a laundromat for the first washing. You will have a lot of fuzz come off the first time...
  6. Re: What is this tool? It appears to be for sewing, not quilting.

Yep. A seam guide. I have always used it in turning hems and such when sewing garments. Did not think to use it in quilting. Thanks ladies

    Re: Cell phones and Grandkids

Oh wow. Such an attitude at only 7. I would have sent her to a bedroom without a tv or any entertainment until she was ready to come out with an adjustment to her attitude

They have all the name brand fabrics there. If you ever get to Paducah, that is a must stop shop.

    Re: Carpenters Wheel

The block is all 1/2 square triangles and squares. Just increase the pieces to get the measurements you want. So if your pattern calls for 8” finished squares you may want to go up to 9 or 10”

    Re: Bias Question

Stay stitching would be a good idea. Also do a real good starch before you stitch

    Re: Ultimate Flying Geese Ruler

I would think that means finished size for your flying geese. Most FG rulers I have seen do list the finished sizes
  12. Re: Programs for those in need... not me. well, maybe not.

My BFF’s mom had county aid. Divorced with 6 kids. She worked hard to make ends meet. This additional help was much needed. Now my DD friend was divorced with child support for one child. Lived at...
  13. Re: Programs for those in need... not me. well, maybe not.

My DD had a friend on food stamps. I told my DD she was paying for her friends groceries with the taxes she paid in. Boy did that change her way of thinking on government aids. She was not a happy...

Re: I Need Your Thoughts on This

My step daughter complained that she did not get any inheritance from her grandparents. Well, first off they did not have anything to give. Second, I told her any inheritance would go to the...

Poll: Re: Size for baby quilt ??

Yep. I would go with the 40 X 50 also. Batting crib size is 45 X 60. And as the others said, no piecing the backing either

Re: Stuck on a Dresden Wreath

Did you line up your ruler from the bottom or widest edge that would fit on the fabric? If you fit the widest part of the ruler that will work, you will get a larger Dresden. But you will also have...

    Re: Scissors for small hands?

I have an Eberlecrafts scissor with a soft grip handle. Is does not have pointed tip and the holes are small. Easy for a smaller hand to use. Sorry I could not download a pic

Re: Rules for hand quilting design

I believe the curves counter balance all the straight lines. It is pleasing to the eye but not a rule. As I am not good at FMQ I have a lot of straight line quilting on my quilts.

    Re: new member

I saw your other post. I would start with a 9 patch or rail fence. If you are going to hand piece you will want to draw your stitching lines on the back side of your pieces. Starting with place mats...

    Re: MSQC North Star Quilt/tutorial

As far as I can tell it looks like the wider strips are cut at 2.5 and the narrower ones cut at 1.5. And the HST is finished at 2 inches. That should give you an 11 inch block But. As Mimi Howard...

    Re: Setting on point help

For setting triangles you cut a square in half in both directions from corner to corner. That leaves the straight of grain on the outer edges. Bonnie Hunter has a chart for sizes to cut on her...

    Re: Tension troubles... I think.

Did you raise the pressure foot? I know it kind of floats when FMQ but the tension stays engaged if it is not raised as you do when regular sewing
