Does a binding need to be bias?

Can anyone tell me why the binding needs to be bias? Also why not sew strips together? What is advantage of that diagonal joining? Thank you!

Re: When is a quilt just too ugly to continue?

I have this problem cooking, too. I’ll be unsatisfied at step 3, or substitute something at step 4 and dislike it, but go on making it because I don’t want to waste the first 3 ingredients. I get...

    Help! Thread keeps breaking.

When I catch my thread by going backward, my thread breaks on second or third stitch forward. I have

    - Written patterns or not

I find reading written quilt patterns demoralizing. If I read

Pen for permanent writing on fabric

Do any of you have advice for permanent marker that will not wash off? I want to write a story on fabric, butfabric will be washed. I will need a fine lined tip.

Jenny is so inspiring. I struggle with curves, but this video was very informative. And that quilt is pretty!
