  1. Re: Anyone use something besides batting to quilt with?

Can you quilt without batting? My mom and I made a quilt for my great aunt but the cotton batting we used made it too heavy for her to manipulate. My mom thinks we can 'quilt' a new quilt (using...

    Fabric Depot is back???

So I just got an email from Fabric Depot saying their online store is back (now based out of St. Louis, MO?). Their site seems to be having some issues - I haven't been able to get the fabric pages...

If you can swing it, do one of their retreats. They're a lot of fun and a good value too!

Re: - Written patterns or not

I like cutting out all the pieces because then I can chain piece. I have learned to make a test block or 3 before I do all the cutting; though.

    Owl baby quilt pattern

    158889

Since I had a request, here's my Owl baby quilt pattern. The Prequilt app I used doesn't give counts for background squares, but I used strips rather than sewing individual squares. You...

Re: I'm Sorry Missouri Star Quilt Co. But....

We've all been spoiled by Amazon and the instantly shipped item. While I agree that the longer it takes for an item to arrive, the more frustrating it is, I don't think 11 days shipping is a...

    Re: Where is Pinkerville?

I've noticed that there is a bit of a delay from when some stores get fabric in and on their website to when MSQC gets it on their site. If something's as super trendy as Tula Pink's fabric, just...

    Re: Hanging sleeve question

Hanging sleeves are easier to attach with the binding (catch one side in the seam)... and then you hand stitch down the other side.

    Re: Innova vs Handiquilter?

While I don't disagree that each person will find different machines to be more to their liking, I do still want feedback from people who have said machines because knowing what people like/don't...

    Innova vs Handiquilter?

    Hi all,

I've started doing some research into Longarms. After checking out a bunch of different brands at a local quilt show, I've narrowed it down to two brands: Handiquilter and Innova. Both...
  13. Re: Freemotion quilting or stitch in the ditch

Use lightweight thread that doesn't contrast and FMQ meander all around. No one will notice the quilting if it's an all-over design like that.

    Re: Disappearing Hourglass (?)

I finally sat down and plotted out the answer to the original poster's question: what happens if you try to D9P (and for that matter, D4P) a QST block.

The answer is actually kind of...

    Re: HST layout

Looks mostly good. The only thing I might tweak would be in the 3rd 'border' of HSTs that intersect the corner stars -- I would make those triangles as contrasty as possible, otherwise that border...

Re: Was looking for some bead

My mom used to run a bead shop and would get some of her supplies from Fire Mountain Gems.

My sister runs a beads of the month club type thing, not sure if she still uses them as a supplier.

Re: A wealth of good ideas and information!

I played around with the app and came up with a few designs. Pretty handy for those of us who don't want to spend $ on EQ8.

Seems to work fine in Chrome but didn't work in IE for me.
  20. Re: All you Pierce Cty, Washington quilters-

My favorite shop in the Tacoma area is Shibori Dragon. I used to go there whenever I flew out to visit my folks (before they moved). I don't think I've even heard of Fabric Train :/

    Re: MSQ Sale Prices

Interestingly enough, some stores have tried to go back to this model and it doesn't work. Specifically, JC Penney tried this, and it cost them a lot of business.

  25. Re: How do you keep ruler/template from moving when cutting with rotary cutter?

One other important part of the technique - keep part of your hand on the ruler and part on the table (opposite side from the edge you're cutting, of course)... that helps keep the template/ruler...
