    Re: Iron recommendations -not Oliso

I recently bought a Beautural 1800 watt iron off Amazon. With the coupon, it was $40. It irons yardage way faster than my Sunbeam 1500 watt, especially when I'm trying to dry the starch or Best Press...
  2. Re: Make a "Quilt As You Go Hexagon" Quilt with Jenny Doan

I'm kicking myself for not ordering the template when it was a daily deal. I was so busy on Black Friday, I even forgot to watch the weekly tutorial! It's too cool to pass up, so I ordered one...
  3. Re: what is the best way to secure machine quilting threads on the finished product?

I keep a self-threading/easy threading needle so I can pop the short thread tails through the eye of it then bury them in the quilt.

    Re: Today's Daily Deal

Normally, I'm all for buying more Tula Pink fabric, but at this point I'd rather get some low volume prints or something my stash currently lacks. I'm really surprised the bundles didn't sell out...
  5. Re: Juki 2010q makes 2-3 stitches after I let off the pedal or press needle down button

My Juki is already returned home. It's in perfect working order! What a relief. I bought the machine from Sew Vac Direct. Honoring the warranty and getting the repairs done through them was quick and...
  6. Re: Juki 2010q makes 2-3 stitches after I let off the pedal or press needle down button

Bubba - I'm going to try that from now on. Do you use the Juki Defrix oil #1, or a different brand of machine oil?
  7. Re: Juki 2010q makes 2-3 stitches after I let off the pedal or press needle down button

I heard back from the technician that it was the motherboard all along. I asked what seemed to have caused the malfunction, and he said it may have been that I oiled the machine a little too much,...
  8. Re: Juki 2010q makes 2-3 stitches after I let off the pedal or press needle down button

Last night, I emailed the online store that I bought the machine from. I got a call from one of their technicians this morning and he let me know that my machine is still under warranty (yay 5 year...
  9. Re: Juki 2010q makes 2-3 stitches after I let off the pedal or press needle down button

Oh no. Now it's even weirder. The needle up/down button now randomly decided whether the needle ends up or down. Same with regular stitching - might end with needle down or needle up. The cut thread...
  10. Juki 2010q makes 2-3 stitches after I let off the pedal or press needle down button

I haven't sewn in a few weeks. I oiled the machine and turned it on to do a small project, but I noticed the machine is taking longer to stop sewing. It used to simply complete the last stitch or one...

    Re: Gutermann's cotton thread

I wonder if you might have grabbed a spool of the hand quilting cotton? It's got some kind of coating on it that can gum up a sewing machine and perhaps cause it to coil off the spool. Gutermann...
  12. Re: Make a "Wandering Star" Quilt with Jenny Doan

Solid stars with a mix of low-volume prints for the rest of the block would look neat.
  13. Re: How to Make a Quilt Sandwich Using Pool Noodles

Thank you for sharing this video! Another quilter uses a similar method, but with PVC pipe.

I was all stoked to try this out until I realized it wouldn't work with the glue baste method...at least...

    Re: Butterfly Haven

I like your quilt more than the one in the pattern photo. Your bolder color choices make the beautiful combination of jacob's ladder and snowball blocks really stand out. Thanks for sharing!

    Re: Oil for Juki 2010q

The 2010 will leak excess oil, too. If you use more than a drop per hole every 8hrs of use, oil will start to ooze out of the buttons and the seams of the aluminum case.

    Re: Oil for Juki 2010q

I use regular sewing machine oil for my Juki 2010q, but I use a needle-tip applicator like this one since it's less messy than the original bottle.

Re: A few customized quilt labels

Brother has a new label maker that will print on ribbon. Neat!

I found some Etsy options that start out pretty cheap, ~$4 to $5:...

Re: A few customized quilt labels

What about iron-on letters or fabric paint with or without a stencil? Maybe seal any fabric paint or ink with something like Scotch Guard?

    Mystery Solid Fat Quarters

On the last free shipping day, I ordered 15 of the mystery solid fat quarters. I received a wonderful assortment, all neatly folded. I'm super happy with what MSQC sent. This has to be one of the...

    Re: WiP Sept 6 - 12, 2019

I've got all the blocks made for my Halloween 4 Patch Frenzy quilt. Next, I need to prewash some flannel and sew it into a new design wall. It'll hang from binder clips on hooks above my closet...

Re: MSQC Thread in Juki 2010Q

I wonder if a needle with a larger eye (like Topstitch) would help with the shredding. If M*'s cotton thread is 3 ply, then it could be rounder and more "fluffy" than Aurifil 50wt.

Re: MSQC Thread in Juki 2010Q

I have the same machine. I haven't used MSQC's cotton thread with it yet, but when I FMQed with Superior So Fine, I had to thread the machine in the alternative way described in the manual for...

    Re: Layer cakes

Maybe doing a snip and tear down the middle of the fabric (lengthwise) would make it easier to fold and cut on the grain. Tearing fabric helps you get an on-grain edge, but you have to press it...

    Re: WIP - August 23-29, 2019

I had to put away all my sewing equipment at the beginning of July to make room to throw out my old mattress and move in the new one. I brought back my cutting table first and had the idea to cut...
