  1. Re: SID with flannel on bottom, thread, needle size

I suggest lengthening your stitch. Experiment to see what looks on the top and the backing. My motto is the thicker the layers, the longer the stitch!

    Re: Quilts shops in Maine?

Welcome in advance to Maine! There is a lovely shop in Windham - Calico Basket, Page Rd. Jam-packed! I was going to suggest Marden's, but see you already know about them. Are you going to the...

    Re: Blue dot bobbin case

    Okay, here are my observations:

My sister-in-law had the Janome 6600P and had no trouble adjusting her tension for FMQ; however when I tried it on my 6300P (very similar machine) I could not get...

I don't have the 6600, but I have the 6300 which is very similar. I found that moving the needle width to 3.9 will produce a scant 1/4" for me. Try it at 3.8 then 3.9 and see how it works for you....

Great pattern I keep meaning to try - love tote bags!

What kind of thread are you using? I do my bindings the same way you describe and use Coats & Clark Dual Duty Plus (25 weight) hand quilting thread (1 strand). Never had a problem with thread...

    Re: Using 30s fabric

I used a bunch of 30s fabrics in a Pins and Paws quilt a while back, with white for the background. 12 blocks total, 3 x 4 layout. Came out really sweet-looking.

Whatever pattern you use will be...

  10. Re: What's your machine quilting thread of choice?

I've had great results doing FMQ with Isacord. It's a 40-wt polyester and I use it both in the needle and in the bobbin. I do change my needle to a 90/14. I have the 5000m cones in white, cream,...

    Re: Beginning Stippling

You've gotten lots of good practice advice. May I answer your other question about stops and starts?

First, I start the first few locking stitches somewhere in the middle of the quilt but choose...

    Re: 5 fat quarters quilt?

This pattern uses pairs of contrasting FQs and you get three blocks from each pairing. If you cut one more FQ from yardage or had one is your stash that would work, this will make 9 blocks. With a...

    Re: Binding

I have used leftover wide backing cut lengthwise for binding several times with no issues at all. Bear in mind that there is almost no 'give' to it, but that shouldn't be a problem. Actually I like...

I use Coats and Clarks Dual Duty Plus for Handquilting - it's very strong and pulls through the fabric very well.

    Re: binding

I sew mine on at about a 3/8" seam allowance with my walking foot, so the binding shows the same size on the front as the back.

Here's my theory: Cut binding at 2 1/2", press in half. You now...

Re: Tree Dudes and amounts for sizes

    RosieMS,

What is the finished size of the blocks and the overall size of your lovely quilt? I'm trying to determine how many in a strip set to use to get the size I'm want.

    Thanks!

    Re: binding issues

I found this to be extremely helpful to cut the bulk out of each corner, go to about the 7:25 mark and watch:
Video - Binding with Patrick Lose

My corners lay nice and flat when I do this.
