Re: Have you walked your daughter down the Isle?

Perhaps in a bunch is too strong a term. My point is that you are setting yourself up for disappointment if you are secretly hoping for her to choose you. It's out of your control; let it go. As you...

Re: Have you walked your daughter down the Isle?

Lorie, this is your daughter's wedding, and it's her decision. Please don't get your undies in a bundle over this. You can ask her what role she envisions for you on the big day, but let it be her...

Welcome to the forum, shonig! I have fond memories of visiting Rotorua; twice, in fact.

    Re: Tiny red tick bite..Yikes!

Chiming in here to say that I agree with Alina. Even if you are feeling better now, you should get a second opinion ASAP from an Infectious Disease doc. Lyme's disease is nothing to mess around with.

    Re: What a Bear!

Oh, my goodness, what a beautiful quilt! Though it's all pretty amazing, I absolutely LOVE the border with the paw prints on the tree bark fabric. Fantastic work!

    Re: Is there a difference?

Katrina, just go for it! To build your confidence, take a piece of muslin that is perhaps the size of a fat quarter. Starting somewhere near the center, pin a scrap of fabric (pretty side facing up)...
  8. Re: has anyone signed up for the 365 block challenge, a block a day for a year?

I think one block a week is very reasonable, especially if you have a life outside your sewing room.
  9. Re: has anyone signed up for the 365 block challenge, a block a day for a year?

Everything was rotary cut and machine pieced. Some of those little 3-inch blocks had more than 40 pieces of fabric. I don't think I have exceptional patience; it's more that I have a great deal of...
  10. Re: has anyone signed up for the 365 block challenge, a block a day for a year?

I took on this challenge in 2016. I was a novice quilter, and my skills improved a great deal. I learned a LOT making this quilt, including an education on choosing fabrics. This quilt is a HUGE time...

Breakfast of Champions! I notice that he is working on not one, but TWO crossword puzzles while eating. Muddy Buddies must be brain food! :D

    Re: QUESTION FOR 2020....

It was a great revelation to me that you can purchase zippers by the yard and add the zipper pulls yourself. I found this a little tricky the first time, but it worked.

    Re: QUESTION FOR 2020....

Jocelyn, no need for zipper anxiety. Annie Unrein (creator of ByAnnie products and patterns) has a series of video tutorials called "Zippers are EASY!" And they really are, I promise.

Re: layer cake FMQ sampler quilt

Great way to practice FMQ, wecoan! Another website that I have found helpful is Lori Kennedy Quilts. She has developed tons of FMQ designs and has a brief tutorial on every one.

    Re: QUESTION FOR 2020....

Barb, I'm sorry that arthritis is interfering with your quilt making. Kudos to you for finding a way to adapt.

The skill I need to learn is FMQ. I have a wall hanging in progress, but the borders...

I think it's simply to make it easier to see the inch measurements, much as a cutting mat has lines every inch.

Re: Look who else is a Christmas baby! MSN!!!

I have never been able to view it that way. To me, the only worse day to have a birthday would be February 29.
  22. Re: What is this tool? It appears to be for sewing, not quilting.

Indeed, new is often inferior. I found that out when I gave my pressing ham and seam roll to my step-daughter. When I went to replace them, I learned that Dritz has reduced the size by quite a bit.

Thank you, everyone, for the birthday wishes! I turn 63 today. Our weather is mild (mid-30's), so we plan to go out for a walk later.

    Re: Embroidery machine

I just checked, and my design is a bit different than yours. Mine has the lighthouse, but only a little bit of the cliff. And it's only about 15,000 stitches. I like how yours includes the water.
