Re: Where We Live Makes A Difference

When we lived in California, driving long distances was no problem. But when we moved to Eastern Washington state, you think twice before you move too far from the convinces when you have to drive...

    Re: im ready (I think)

You could use minkee and that would be soft but not silk. It is easy to quilt but can make a mess while cutting. I like to use it on the back of my quilts for babies and teens.
  3. Re: Janome comments... thinking of a 3160 or 9900

I was told to steer clear of the 7700s especially used ones. They were having some issue I can't remember what it was. But it was suggested to steer clear of them.

    Re: Prewashing 2-1/2" Strips???

I swear by them in a TOP loading washer. BUT...NOT in a FRONT loading washer. Unless anyone else has had good luck using them in a front loading washer. I ruined a quilt that had red in it. Next time...
  5. Re: To pre-wash or not to Pre-wash (flannel charm packs)

Never wash precuts! It doesn't matter if they are flannel or not. The edges will fray and you won't have much usable fabric left. I have made several quilts with flannel precuts and I was pleased...

    Re: Snowballing corners????

Half of 4 1/2 would be 2 1/4. Maybe that is one of the problems. Sew a little to the right of the line towards the outside corner the one you cut off. See if that works.

Re: turning quilt on machine quilting frame

Here is a link to the APQS video on how to turn a quilt http://youtu.be/xlh0xu8XkwI. If the link doesn't work then go to You Tube and type "turning your quilt "and go to the one made by APQS. Dawn...

Re: Clunking Noise & Bobbin Problems

I think I heard somewhere where the titanium needles were a little bit longer than the others. You might want to check the length of the needle.

    Re: So Fine thread...is it?

Best thread ever. The 50 wt is very fine and makes your 1/4 " seams perfect.

Re: What would you do? ???

Also, how are you going to quilt it? I think it's too big for a longarm. That's a significant amount more to push under your domestic machine if that's how you're quilting it up.

    Re: Is this step necessary?

When you take your quilt top to a longarmer to quilt it for you, sometimes she will baste around the edges to keep everything square on her machine.

I've heard that denture cleaner does a good job. I have never used it though.

Re: What dimensions for a queen size bed?

Also remember that your longarmer needs 4 to 6 inches all the way around larger than your quilt top in order for her to attach it to her frame.

Re: For all you long arm quilters

Dense Quilting will always cause a stiff Quilt. You are matting down the batting so much that there is no air left to make it fluffy. To make a fluffy Quilt you quilt less.

A stitch regulator will help you learn how to quilt easier. Then you can work on not using it. The regulator makes learning not so scary. Without it you MUST always be moving the machine, no thinking...

Re: FMQ sample - am I good enough do you think?

You did a great job. If you want more ideas take a look at Leah Day's tutorials. She does a great job showing you how to do free motion quilting on your domestic machine.
