    Re: Machine lifespan

Sorry, not at all what I was saying. I am totally disgusted by throw away everything. We claim to be worried about the environment, but yet pitch tons and tons of plastic machines of every kind into...
  2. Re: How To Make A "Trip Around The World" Quilt the EASY WAY!

I agree that Eleanor's method would be much easier, but was happy to see how Donna does it. Different strokes for different folks....

    Throw away machines.

    Sad

  4. Re: Make a "Pumpkin Spice" Quilt with Jenny Doan

One of my favorites of Jenny's recent tutorials! I love the JR choice too, but have one in much more muted colors that I think would work well too.

    And the list grows longer.....

    Re: Folded Corner Ruler

I've wondered about those and how long the "folding strip" will last? I can see they would be handy for travel.

    Re: Folded Corner Ruler

So many of the "specialty rulers" really are just the basics, re-named and repackaged. I try not to buy any that I can use my basic rulers to do the same thing. I do have the small version of the...

    Re: Halloween Panel Quilt

We would have never known! It does look pieced. Really cute. Do you remember the name or fabric line? My DD's birthday is Halloween and she would love it.

    Re: Need a sewing machine

For piecing, a straight stitch only machine is the way to go. If you do garment sewing, you may want some more features. I love vintage machines and they are readily available for as little as $20....

  16. Re: Jordan Fabrics tour of their company & store

It does look like a fun place to visit! I hope on my next trip to SFO to visit my sister to take a road trip up there - it is about a 5 hour drive so may involve an overnight stay.

Re: Anyone else thought about this?

Not necessarily. Many, maybe most, vintage machines were left behind by people who have passed away. As far as more "options" - for basic piecing, which the OP was considering a second machine for,...

Re: Anyone else thought about this?

That's why I use vintage machines. I have a computerized machine but never use it. If it was to crash, it would be in the garbage, they are too expensive to repair. Sadly, no matter how much you pay...
  19. Re: Make a "Fancy Flight" Quilt with Jenny Doan

    Definitely works!

Pretty quilt....Like the way she alternated the light and dark backgrounds in the columns. Since it was an uneven number of columns, you wouldn't have equal numbers of lights and...

I agree. She will be around. I prefer it when they have their own youtube channels - no membership - just watch what you want. I don't know how all that works as far as compensation goes, but...

    Re: Quilting

The best advice I ever got for machine quilting was to starch, starch then starch again - especially for the backing. It will help to prevent those little tucks that can get stitched into the backs.

Re: Make a "Building Blocks" Quilt with Jenny Doan

Really love the look and the fabric. I am somewhat bothered by the fact there is no "sashing" on the left or bottom. What would happen if each row was reversed? It's still a beautiful quilt, but that...
