I have a very small space, so cutting large sheets of fabric was quite challenging. I recommend cutting away corner seams and any elastic on the edge to allow for easier rotary cutting.
I have also learned overtime old sheets are not square. Because they are so soft and pliable it is hard to cut them. I recommend cutting your first cuts be rough cuts. It will be easier to maneuver. On your second parrallel cut, I recommend cutting about 1/2 inch larger to accomodate the stretch of the whole sheet. That weight might be stretching one side harder than the other and then your fat quarter will not be square. Cut 1/2 inch larger than 18 by 22. This will allow you to square it up as a more manageable size. Or leave it large and allow the other end of the swap to get a bit more sheet.
Have fun with it! I look forward to hearing from you!
