    Welcome New Members!

I’d like to welcome all brand new members to our yearly Secret Santa Group. Being new to a group can be confusing and for some intimidating. We are hoping that this will make you more comfortable

Yes, your gifts will be “good enough”. We have no quilting police here and our members have a wide variety of months and years quilting/sewing, so skill levels are all over the board What we all have in common is that what we do make is made with love.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions. We’re a very helpful group and there is a good chance that the question you have is shared by someone else here regardless of whether they are new or have more Secret Santa years under their belt. Your question is helping others here. I also encourage new people to PM or email me. That’s what I’m here for and I do enjoy helping or working things out with others. If you find you are putting too much stress on your plate, let’s talk about that. If you feel you cannot make a deadline let’s talk about that too. You can PM me on the forum or email me at: [email protected]

The first year most of us wondered what gift projects members have made in the past. A good way to get ideas is to look at the former years Secret Santa Groups. After we receive gifts pictures are often uploaded to each year’s Gallery in the Group (some years more than others). Check out past groups.

Many people also check out quilting/sewing categories on Pinterest. Tons of ideas there! There are also great tutorials of project put out by Jenny here at our MSQ ; Jordan Fabrics ; Craftsy I will sometimes do searches on Esty, if I find something I’d like I then go over to utube and try to find a video tutorial on how to make that project.

And of course start a thread in our Discussion Group asking for ideas for projects in general or based on a particular theme or even where you can find a particular project tutorial. There are plenty members who will offer ideas based on what they received in the past, or made for others previously or even just something that comes to them at the moment.

I will ask other members to add to this thread on ways they see making life a little easier and more comfortable for new members. We are all happy to have you here!

As a first time member last year, one of the things I found really helpful was the questionnaire and the discussions about likes and dislikes in the discussion group. It really helped me choose themes that were tailored for the person I was sending to, and often helped me with ideas for things to make. I want to encourage everyone to participate in those threads, they really gave me confidence in making my projects.

Not a new member, but did not participate last year. I truly did miss having my box of goodies to open on Christmas day. I do occasionally get behind, for various reasons, my health, my grand kids in general...I am going to really try this year to keep on track. Looking forward to being a part of it again....and yes I still have to extra items from the past. So please feel free to send extra's to me...I will be sure they get to whoever needs them.

        About this Group

        Secret Santa 2020

Membership is now opened for Secret Santa 2020

We had a lot of fun with the Secret Santa 2020 group last year. A lot of happy people received beautiful handmade gifts from their Secret Santa's. Each person made and received 12 gifts at Christmas that were made throughout the year, one a month based on a given theme. We learned new things, challenged our skills in a non-stressful way and got "down and dirty" creative. Plus at the end of the year we get 12 great gifts for Christmas!

This group is a commitment as you are signing on to create 12 gifts during the year. They can be smaller projects so any challenge is not overly difficult. Choose whatever difficulty you are comfortable with. You may also, twice a year, swap out the named theme for one of your own choosing. You may also purchase rather than hand make 3 items during the year.
