    Greetings to Our New Members

I’d like to welcome all brand new members to our yearly Secret Santa Group. Being new to a group can be confusing and for some intimidating. We are hoping that this will make you more comfortable

Yes, your gifts will be “good enough”. We have no quilting police here and our members have a wide variety of months and years quilting/sewing, so skill levels are all over the board What we all have in common is that what we do make is made with love.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions. We’re a very helpful group and there is a good chance that the question you have is shared by someone else here regardless of whether they are new or have more Secret Santa years under their belt. Your question is helping others here. I also encourage new people to PM or email me. That’s what I’m here for and I do enjoy helping or working things out with others. If you find you are putting too much stress on your plate, let’s talk about that. If you feel you cannot make a deadline let’s talk about that too. You can PM me on the forum or email me at: [email protected]

The first year most of us wondered what gift projects members have made in the past. A good way to get ideas is to look at the former years Secret Santa Groups. After we receive gifts pictures are often uploaded to each year’s Gallery in the Group (some years more than others). Check out past groups.

Many people also check out quilting/sewing categories on Pinterest. Tons of ideas there! There are also great tutorials of project put out by Jenny here at our MSQ ; Jordan Fabrics ; Craftsy I will sometimes do searches on Esty, if I find something I’d like I then go over to utube and try to find a video tutorial on how to make that project.

And of course start a thread in our Discussion Group asking for ideas for projects in general or based on a particular theme or even where you can find a particular project tutorial. There are plenty members who will offer ideas based on what they received in the past, or made for others previously or even just something that comes to them at the moment.

I will ask other members to add to this thread on ways they see making life a little easier and more comfortable for new members. We are all happy to have you here

I've also found great ideas on If you sign up for her emails, you get an idea every day.

My 2018 Santa found a bunch of great ideas on Crafty Gemini's YouTube channel.

I went back through my patterns and projects that I have accumulated. It gave me the opportunity to make them in a different color way, or play with new types of fabrics.

I know one thing I stressed about my first year was the fabric choice. Is it the right color, will she like the pattern. But what I enjoyed in my two years in SS is the fabric the items were made from. It's amazing the different fabrics that are out there and it was exciting to see the fabric as much as the gift itself. As I opened each gift I was like "oh how cool is this fabric".

If you get stuck reach out and e-mail/message one of us!
While I may not tell you exactly what I am making, we can brainstorm some possible ideas. Sometimes just having somebody to work through the process with is helpful.
Pretty much as long as it's not purple, green, and orange polyester double-knit, your fabric choices will be just fine!

Welcome old/new members. Let's have fun.

Thank you for the warm welcome. I am new to this swap and board but have been doing quilting swaps online for a little while now. I’m excited to get started! I already have an idea for my valentines themed item...

              About this Group

Membership is now closed for 2019.

We had a lot of fun with the Secret Santa 2018 group last year. A lot of happy people received beautiful handmade gifts from their Secret Santa's. Each person made and received 12 gifts at Christmas that were made throughout the year, one a month based on a given theme. We learned new things, challenged our skills in a non-stressful way and got "down and dirty" creative. Plus at the end of the year we get 12 great gifts for Christmas!

This group is a commitment as you are signing on to create 12 gifts during the year. They can be smaller projects so any challenge is not overly difficult. Choose whatever difficulty you are comfortable with. You may also, twice a year, swap out the named theme for one of your own choosing. You may also purchase rather than hand make 3 items during the year.

If you would like to join please "subscribe", "join". Read the Rules in the discussion section and sign. You will receive a questionaire from the mod
