    Ideas & Suggestions

    Hi, everyone!

Since there are at least a few newbies (like ME, lol) in this year's swap, I thought it might be helpful to have a thread where we can easily find ideas & suggestions as we go along. I know I'll probably get stumped at some point along the way!

Here's my first contribution Triangle zipper pouch from Crafty Gemini!
    http://craftygemini.com/2015/04/how-...-tutorial.html

I love these & will be making several as gifts for friends & family - I made a large one using 10" squares (from a different tutorial, that I can't find now, of course!) I really like this tutorial and using the same steps with larger squares is easy to do - it just looks complicated

Great idea to also add the video tutorial. I liked these pouches when I first saw them and wondered how they were made. I've done Jenny's zipper pouches using her tutorial (http://quiltingtutorials.com/browse-...ouch-tutorial/) and wondered how it would work without putting the tabs after you cut the zipper to resize it before sewing it into the project. I'm definitely going to try the tutorial you listed. I've watched and done a few of her tutorials before and liked them. So far the only one I didn't care for was the one on the casserole holder.

It's funny you bring up #craftygemini as I just watched her video yesterday and completed two pouches using her tutorial on YouTube.

I absolutely love Vanessa Personally there is one of her tutorial I LOVE and it's great for making gifts! It's the easter basket tutorial ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9WUYyLHpw8 ) but you can make it with any kind of fabrics and every size! I love making this for a gift!

I also recommend the Keypouch tutorial by Fabric Mutt http://fabricmutt.blogspot.it/2014/0...-tutorial.html because it's very cute and she has a lovely blog with a lot of inspiration

also Amy Smart of Diary of a quilter (my fav blogger) has an adorable blog and I've learnt quite a lot from her tutorials! Just let me give you the link to one of her cutest and easy projects! I've made one and loved it! http://www.diaryofaquilter.com/2014/...and-table.html

I've made quite a few of the Neat 'n Tidy zipper pouches from Erin at Dog Under My Desk - I loved her free tutorials so much that I bought a few of her patterns too - they are really detailed w/loads of pictures.

Here's tge link to her tutorials - there are several that would be cute for the swap!

I really like that keypouch tutorial. It looks like it's fast, fun and uses up those scraps. I have a car that locks itself. Very annoying. If running into a store for milk I always have to take the keys with me and I don't always want to grab the purse to access my debit card. (Carlie is always in the car protecting my purse LOL) This would be perfect!

Oh my gosh - that little suitcase is adorable! I'm not sure my skills are up to the task though - I've just barely mastered a placemat, lol

I used several of her tutorials to make items for the 2016 Secret Santa swap.

This could be a fun idea to be inspired with a Seasonal or Holiday theme (or not! ) TABLERUNNERS!

I like the projects on the first link. I've been working on placemats this last week, one had a pocket area for tableware. I like those little separate ones on the site.

BTW, has anyone successfully made napkins? I've tried simple ones where you just fold under the quarter inch and stitch but they always look "homemade" (and not pleasantly) for me. Also they always feel "harsh" to me and don't seem to drape like store bought ones. What type of fabric are people using. Am I doing something wrong?

I don't know Carlie... I just made my first two sets of napkins as you described it using quilting cotton fabric but I don't know when they will be used so for now I cannot help you in the matter sorry

Carlie, I've never made napkins because I've never been able to do those teensy hems, lol

I would think a nice linen would make good napkins maybe?

I have used my serger to put a rolled hem on regular quilting cotton for a decent napkin. The commercial ones have polyester in them.
