    Changes or variations?

Did you change anything after the reveal? Did you remake any of the clues?

Not so far, but.... I'm thinking of making some changes. I just finished my yellow hourglass units, so it's my first day to lay out the big block and see how I like it. Looking at all those photos on facebook, I thought about the half square triangle idea instead of the yellow squares, but now I have changed that change. Now I am going back to the yellow squares, but I'm using the same yellow print for each. It's very soft and I think I like the color effect better. Also, my dark purple tri recs units, not happy with some of those that used some of my lighter dark purples. I may redo those and use only the darkest purple on those units. Finally, the centers of both types of blocks. Instead of a neutral 4 patch I'm going to make up some yellow four patches and see how those look. Sheesh. Decisions, decisions. I love this quilt though, regardless of my need to tinker with it!

I did see a version where instead of the four yellow squares, they used yellow and neutral HST. I liked both versions, but haven't decided......

I haven't made up my mind either. If I use the yellow from my stash, as it is too dark, it would be in yellow/purple HSTs. The other option would be to purchase a lighter yellow.

Lourixe it's been so hard for me to find the right yellows. Nearly all my yellows from stash ended up being to bright and I thought they looked glaring. So I had to try to find some softer tones more golden than citron looking. With all the work involved in this quilt I just want it to work out right!

After many things working against me I am working on the last two clues this weekend. I too have went back & forth on the yellow, I am going to try it & see, hope I don't have to rip it all out .

I just published a pic of my finished top. Although I didn't like my yellows, I had used them all throughout the units so I finally decided to use them for the squares too. So the quilt center is basically Bonnie Hunter's pattern, only reduced to a 3 x 3 blocks layout instead of her 4 x 4 blocks.
What I did change was the borders. In her Reveal post she describes two consecutive borders, the first one alternates neutral 4P and tri-recs units to complete the stars, then she adds another row of neutral 4Ps.
I have had really bad experiences with pieced outer borders. They stretch, they are irregular, they are difficult to catch when sewing the binding to them. Instead of adding two pieced borders, I added "twosies" (pairs of 2" neutral squares) to all the units that made the first pieced border, so this was 5" wide, and finally I added another 2" magenta strip as an one-piece outer border.
I am now wondering how I am going to quilt it. Maybe I could start straight lines along the purple diagonals, to hold the three layers while I decide how to fill further inside the blocks.

I still need to sew my yellow qsts. I am lagging behind. I plan to add another border like Lourixe but it will be purple to make it as smidge larger.

Alright, I finally started piecing my purple blocks together and made a change. I liked the flow with my eyes with the light purples lined up instead of the dark purples. That is my only change so far.

I didn't change anything, except using material on the final edge instead of the 4 patches. I didn't want to stitch binding through all the seams.
