    Cotton quilting thread

I purchased the 100% cotton quilting thread from M* and the spool is too big to fit on my machine. Is there a remedy for this?? Picture attached. Dumb question maybe?

You can use a stand-alone thread stand like this one, or some quilters place oversized spools or cones in a coffee cup behind their machine like this.

Thank you, a paper clip and cup will work. Just not thinking clear this a.m. I've heard of this method that you can transfer thread from a big spool to a smaller spool that fits the machine. Have no idea how that is done.

Make sure you don't get one with a plastic base. The first one I bought was from Joanne's and it was plastic and not very sturdy. The second one was heavy metal like a cast iron skillet. Does not move around!

The DIY is ok for an occassional project but the one with the metal base is very sturdy and doesn't move around. It also holds the thread high enough so it doesn't catch on anything and rolls off the spool nicely.

I love the stand alone I have with a metal base. So handy. I'd put it on my wish list :-) That and the 1/4" pressure foot I purchased not to long ago.

Pack the base with florists clay or modelling clay.

                Mason jar works perfect.

I tried the mason jar and coffee cup already and worked fine but then just bought myself a stand along.

I've had a separate thread cone stand for many years & wouldn't be without it. They work great. I bought mine at my LQS for ~$11.00.
