I watched the Periwinkle Quilt tutorial this morning (it's posted below the Daily Deal) and would love to make one and almost ordered the template this morning but, after watching the tutorial I have a question for someone who has made this quilt. When Jenny holds up the finished block it doesn't look like there's even a scant 1/4" on each side, so that when you sew the blocks together you'll lose the points on the part of the block that is made from the bright/bold print (not the neutral background white fabric). Do you lose the points? On the finished quilt that's hanging behind her it looks like there are points. I hope this makes sense -- I'm not sure I'm asking my question very well. Thanks for any help you can provide!

Re: Periwinkle Quilt question
There is an issue with using the Wacky Web template for the Periwinkle quilt, so much so that they made a separate tutorial on how to do it so that you keep your points. If you do it the way Jenny shows in the first video, all your points are chopped off.
If you use the template in the magazine, that one is correct and your points are good with no changes.

Re: Periwinkle Quilt question
Dawn, I love this quilt pattern, but I'd be afraid to use that wacky web template. So many people had trouble with this and wasted a lot of fabric trying to get the points. I tried the template from the magazine and it works just fine and I didn't use any papers. I'll send you my copy of the magazine. PM me with your address, not sure if I still have it.

Re: Periwinkle Quilt question
I ditto what the others have said. Don't waste your time with the wacky web template or papers. Use the template patterns printed in the magazine and have your husband or someone cut them from thick plastic. The pattern says instead of the papers you can cut a square (I think it says 9 inches) and cut it in half and this gives you the pattern for the papers. My husband also cut this out of plastic for me. I didn't see the need for using papers. I still don't have mine quilted but it turned out beautiful and all the points are there.

Re: Periwinkle Quilt question
When Jenny came out with the tut, I seriously wanted to make it and when I went to order the papers, they were sold out. I also knew I could make one without using the templates she did. I had previously done a spider web, which is paper pieced, from Quilters Cache
Easy Spider Web
If you look at my quilt - you can see that I inverted where I put the fabric as opposed to the pattern on that site. I had the top done in no time flat. Seriously easy. I think that my blocks are probably larger than Jenny's, too.
here's mine:
You may want to try your hand at this and just use some scraps to start with. It really is E-Z. If you haven't paper pieced before, this one only has 4 seams in a block if you use one piece of fabric for the periwinkles. Mine were from a charm pack (leftovers) for the flower center.Sewing mends the soul.

Re: Periwinkle Quilt question
Thank you everyone!! I really appreciate all of the helpful hints and tips. I totally forgot it was in a previous edition of the Quilting Quickly magazine. Now I'm really thankful that the template was out of stock, as was the wacky web starter kit with the template, papers, and glue stick. This forum is the best -- everyone is always so willing to help others -- have a great evening!Dawn
