Hi Shirley, in a normal sort of plastic bucket I would use a cup of cooking salt. From the dyeing workshops I have done I believe the reactive time is quite short but I usually leave it for 30 mins or so. It doesn't stop jeans from fading totally but a lot of jeans are actually designed to fade, they are never colour set in the first place so this keeps them looking nicer for longer. If I buy a bunch of new work jeans for my DH I do it in the washing machine but I wouldn't recommend this if the bowl of your machine is metal, and always wash the machine out well after, salt can be corrosive. I use warm water to make it easier to dissolve the salt first and obviously rinse well in clean water after or put through a wash cycle. This can be done with anything that the dye set is suspect on.

Hi Shirley....I'm in Licking, Missouri, which is in the south central prt of the state, 35 miles south of Rolla and about 2 hours northeast of Springfield. My log cabin quilt has been in the works for a while. Normally, log cabins are a cinch to put together, but this one has a row of triangles going diagonally through each block, The triangles look nice, but they really limited my options for setting the blocks together and then there's the whole bias issue of trying to get triangles to meet with other triangles. I have pictures of two layouts in my album in the Gallery if you would care to look at it. I chose the setting where the white sections come togther in sort of a starburst rather than the barn raising layout. Personally I would have chosen the barn raising, by my Hubby was really liking the other setting, so I did it for him.

    Thanks for your nice note....Barb

Shirley, do you know who the moderator is for the Cutting Table Blog? The first time I commented I had no problem. Then I tried to answer a question (twice) and both times I was asked to type those weird letters that really don't spell anything and I guess I didn't type them in correctly, because it said that the comments would go through a moderator first. Have you ever had that happen? I want to be able to respond to a couple of questions that have been asked.
  5. Nancy, Yes I followed a pattern. I think you could find it by googling "Snap Happy Bags". If not let me know. Very easy to make and I have made many for my girls and granddaughters.

Oh sorry, would help if I mentioned what I'm talking about. It's the snap bags. They look so handy.

Shirley. Did you follow a pattern. I'd love to make some but can't wrap my head around how to do it.

I know what you mean. I really don't like picking out fabric. I'm so indecisive and unsure of what I want when I start looking at all the options! You did a great job on the heart quilts. Thanks for sharing them with us.

Thanks Shirley! It's a really simple baby quilt pattern and it goes together very quickly.
