    Hi, Jean,

Thanks for your kind comments on my Girl with the Pearl Earring! Ya know, as I was stitching that out for the second time, I thought that it was a pretty advanced project too! It was the course project that came with the Craftsy course on Thread Art, so I figured, What the Hay. BUT...in hindsight, it was pretty ambitious. What I really want to do is a thread art picture of my granddaughter, which will seem easier after this piece, me thinks! LOL!

    Hi Jean,

Here's another idea for jelly roll quilt. Saw this yesterday and thought of you!

  7. I have to go through my vintage button collection to give you a firm number, i'll find them tomorrow and let you know.

Carl's quilt is cute but too small for a 5 year old.(42" square) I'm going to use the rest of the layer cake pack and make another that is bigger for him, but the same style.
  8. Hey there Jean, approximately how many buttons are you sending to Cyndi? ...and thanks for that!
  9. I developed a formula for making them wider. You start with how wide you want it to be, multiply by 32( number of rows in a jelly roll quilt.) It wii be a big number. Then divide by 41( how long each jelly roll strip ends up being after you seam them together). That number tells you how mant strips to start with. This quilt started with 60 strips, and ended up being about 72" wide before I added the borders. I made it longer by adding strips one at a time to the ends. Be sure to sew on these strips from one end, then the other, or you will end up with a bow and the quilt won't lay flat. This happened to the darker one, and I had to rip out 9 rows
NOT FUN! You can always add length to a Jelly roll quilt, but can only add width by adding borders. Hope this helps! It took 80 strips to make this quilt, plus I had extra so I used them for my binding,(9 of them). I used Riley Blake jelly rolls, there are 24 in each, so I needed 4 rolls and I have a few left over.

I love your patriotic quilts! That are equally beautiful. I have questions though. The only jelly roll quilt I've made comes out to be a twin size. Yours look much larger. What size are they? How many rolls did they take? And how did you figure out how many strips across to get the width? Thanks!
