  1. Hi bkm130, thanks for the comment and sorry it took so long to reply. I've not been on the computer.

I had a devil of a time trying to figure out the best way to quilt this. I finally just got a Frixon pen and a ruler and drew a line 1" outside and inside each row and column of blocks (a block being made up the four pieces in the double slice) then another line down and across the middle. Kind of hard to explain but I did a rough sketch on a piece of paper first to see if it work and I liked the result.

For the outer border I used a template and again, drew it on with a Frixon pen. It was the first time I'd marked a quilt with one of those pens or used a template and I tested it first with a sample mug rug. I'd heard some people had problems with the ink not fading but I didn't have any problems.

    Hope this helps.

I love your double slice layer cake quilt!

I'm new to quilting and this is my first with this pattern and I'm trying to figure out how to quilt the layers together using straight lines (I'm not brave enough to try anything else yet). I know I'll stitch parallel lines along the blocks, but that won't be enough, can you share how you quilted yours?

tHANKS, I just recently had to sell my embroidery machine. So I decided to throw myself back into quliting my first love. So qa design wall is perfect. I have a wall in the upstairs hall outside of my sewing room that would be perfect I think.

Hi, I am trying to dig through my sewing room. It is a hot mess. On the design wall does the blocks stick to it or do you have to pin them? great idea... Donna

Thanks for the comment on the wedding quilt I made for DD#2. It was fun to make and I had it quilted at M*QC too. They did a beautiful job!

Thanks so much for your kind comment on my Dresden Flower Garden quilt in my album. It was labor intensive, but I enjoyed every minute of it.

I'm not really a diva, that was something my daughter called me as a joke. I am newly retired, a new grandma, a new quilter, and new to this forum. Not bad for an old girl! :)
