Week 43 Ric Rac Whackity whack....

Congratulations to our winner this week....JBELL. Email me your information and which charm pack you want, and we will get your prize in the mail.

This week I am giving away a yard of JUMBO RIC RAC {teal} I LOVE ric rac. I love it on quilts, and aprons...on jeans and table toppers.

My question for you is: Do you like embellishments on your sewing projects? Or do you like the piecing to speak for itself?
If you like embellishing, what kind of embellishments to you use? Ahhhhh....I am dying to know!
Good luck! I hope you win the prize this week!

Way to go JBELL!! I haven't tried using embellishments yet, I have to complete something!! however, I do like buttons!! So when I do start getting some things done, (I'm working on a project as a birthday gift for my brother) Maybe I'll throw some buttons on!!

I have thought of using different stuff to add to my quilts. I really like the idea of using buttons I think I will do that with my daughters Graduation quilt. I did make her a wall hanging that I tied with satin ribbon in bows. And put heart buttons on.

        Congrats to JBELL!

I haven't made too many quilted projects, and the ones I've made so far don't have embellishments. I do love buttons, though, and will probably use them on some future projects.

          Congrats JBell!
I made a 4-patch throw using Gobble,Gobble charm packs, pieced them with alternating cream-colored fabric, and tied it instead of quilting. I tied it with buttons, and it really make a huge difference in the look. I like embellishments. I think they're a lot of fun!

Congratulations JBell! What a lucky gal - you get to pick what you want!

I saw the RicRac title and just had to click on it. I've been drooling over the different things people have been using the RicRac for in quilts lately. A stem on flowers, vines coming out from different directions, etc. I am ready to pick some up at a local store just to try them.
And buttons. Do like the look of them on the tops of quilts. I can't say I've used any embellishments yet, but I can see it in the future.

            Hugs,

I really like embellishments on things like wall hangings and table toppers, but for bed quilts, not so much. I've used your lovely jumbo ric rac on a few table toppers and lots of people just oo and ah over it!!

                Congrats JBell.

I'm really not an embelishment person on a quilt. But if the pattern calls for it I will use it. I like for the quilts to speak for thereselves. Smaller projects like potholders or tote bags then yes I embellish away with buttons or whatever it calls for.

I would never embellish a bed quilt but I love to embellish wall quilts. My favorites are stick on butterflys, dragonflies, bees, etc. I also use buttons (they make great snowmen). I always search the clearance bins when I'm at Joann's & the misc bins are the first thing I go to at a thrift shop - it's amazing the cute embellishments you can find.

I LOVE embellishing wall quilts but if I do embellish a bed quilt, I make sure its something that will survive being used, loved & washed,(yo-yo's,ric-rac,ribbons,etc.). And be comfortable to sleep on so I avoid buttons, & hard things like that.

I think embellishments are great on "art" quilts or landscape quilts. I'm relatively new to quilting and right now I try to let the patchwork speak for itself. I can't allow myself to get far enough outside the box to use embellishments (eek!). We'll see what happens in the future -- and to win the jumbo ric rac might just be the push I need!

I love ric-rac. But I don't use embellishments much as they don't stand up to use.

Congrats to the last 2 weeks winners! I was on vacation for a week and when I came back the computer would not work so I am missing my visits to the forum for the last 2 weeks!! Computer just got fixed yesterday so hopefully I can pick it up tonight.
On to this weeks topic - embellishments. Like many of you I do not embellish bed quilts but have done a couple crazy quilt wall hangings with buttons, ribbons, charms and embroidery. One of my current projects is a doll quilt using the cute little yo-yo's from the yo-yo maker. They will be attached to the quilt squares with a ribbon bow in the center. I think it will be real cute!
Gotta get back to work...sshhh...don't tell that I snuck on here!!

                            Congrats JBell!!!

I have yet to embellish a quilt with more than yarn to tie it instead of quilting it with stitching. I liked how it looked and I'm sure I would like buttons and more, although I tend to be a plain jane-er who loves the simple beauty of a quilt to shine through.

Embellishments are appropriate sometimes. In fun trendy patterns sure....something for a kid. But not on something that I plan to keep long term.
