I hope everyone who was celebrating holidays over the weekend had a great time with family and friends. I have a Canadian friend whose birthday is July 4th. So she celebrates Canada Day, and get a celebration on the USA Independence Day as well.
When I went to sleep last night, I thought I was going to throw myself a pity party this morning. On Sunday, my "Check Engine Soon" light went on, but I knew I had to wait until today to call the service station. I researched the causes, and was not happy with what I learned! Then, yesterday, as I was working on two coaster sets, my iron "died". Heck! I was afraid to damage my car by driving it to Target to get another iron!!!!
One of the causes of "check engine soon" is if there is a crack in the fuel cap. I knew that couldn't be the case, as I bought a new cap about a year ago. BUT ... the last time I fueled was in New Jersey, where attendants fill the tank for you. So I checked the tank, and sure enough, that attendant did not wind it closed properly. Called the mechanic anyway, and was told that it would take a few days for the light to go off. I think that problem has been solved.
Then I remember I had a spare iron. AND ... tried the 'dead' iron again, and it turned on just fine. So, instead of 'woe is me', I am shouting 'yipee!"
Back to the coaster sets. These are sets of 8 coasters and a caddy to hold them. It takes 4 fat quarters. I made one when I first started quilting, over 5 years ago. I remember how concerned I was that I was doing it correctly, and was very unsure af myself. Five years later, I go about making two sets at the same time, cutting through multiple layers of fabric, chain piecing merrily along, and joining 2.5" squares as my leaders and enders to be used in another scrappy quilt! If my iron hadn't failed me, I am pretty sure I would have finished both sets yesterday. What a difference 5 years of sewing and learning has made.
As we go into the second half of this year, what is happening in your sewing room/space?
