Re: Weekly discussion question for 3/30/09

Right now my inspiration is coming from the fabulous fabrics and quilts that I have seen online! I love looking at other quilters work and saying to myself, "Amazing! I have to try that!" Just as soon as I finish one...I find more that need to be added to my ever growing list of must-try's!

Okay Ladies.....WHAT is your biggest inspiration RIGHT now!?! What are you creating or want to create? Come on, don't be shy....I wanna know what you can't get out of your head! Let's discuss!

For me right this moment, I am inspired by bright color. NOT neon (brought back from the 80's) but bright cheery color. I love polka dots like nobody's business and i love ric rac......I am knee deep in the process of updating my daughters bedroom and trying to put it all together. And it is gonna be fun! I think I might be ready to add some color in the rest of the house as well. Anyone else sick of the tan and brown and gold?? (don't get me wrong, I still love those colors, I am just ready for bright and happy!)

    So spill the beans.....let's talk.

That is a good question. I usually just flag any of my quilt magazines with the ones I think would be easy and not too time consuming. I also visit some websites to get ideas.

Wow shell you're amazing! I don't have much of a system at all at this point but I think I will be adopting some of yours

Re: Weekly discussion question for 3/30/09

I have my bookmarks organized as follows:

    blogs
    blocks
    manufacturers/designers

and within each of these are the sites that fall into each catagory. I use FireFox as my browser and it allows me to open all sites within a folder at one time in different "tabs" in my browser. I usually check the manufacturer/designer sites once a week or so....the block sites when I am looking for something specific (certain pattern or idea for pattern)...and the blogs I check daily for updates.

I should probably create another sub-category for tutorials...but since they are all on blogs it kind of seems redundant.

Hard copies I keep in a binder in sheet protectors. I print tutorials (in black and white so I don't get sidetracked by colors) and put them in the binder along with any magazine articles/patterns/tutorials I want to keep to cut down on clutter and leaves more room for fabric!!

I have a "computation notebook" that is basically a book filled with graph paper that engineers use for math computations. I use it as a sketch book since it already has blocks drawn for me and I can easily assign measurements to the existing blocks and then use my art markers to create patterns that closely match the colors I am wanting to use and I can see how it works before I start cutting/sewing. It also helps me figure out how many blocks need to be cut and what not. Helps cut down on waste and frustration.

Thanks for putting this question out there. I also use those many different ways, but do not feel I am very organized. I would like to have a better method. I do have a small tote bin with the pictures, patterns and printed out tutorials I want to do, but the bookmarked ones seem to get lost.

I used to book mark things.....can't ever remember to go back to them.....

My favorite thing right now is magazines! I really like having a color picture and good directions.....And yes, I will tear them out and put them in a binder. I do need to get a more organized system.....

I love getting ideas from other people as well....it is amazing how a group of women can get together to just chit chat and come up with some awesome stuff.

I do all of the above. I have a book with page protectors for filing designs, I have a book that I draw designs in, and I have bookmarked blogs and websites that I check out for inspiration.

    Weekly discussion question for 3/30/09

Since I seem to start a new discussion each week....here goes...

How do you keep track of you inspiration and ideas?

    Do you bookmark blogs/websites?

    Keep a quilt journal?

    File printouts?

Design your own in a sketch book?
Working...
