Adding quilted border to longarmed quilt top

Here’s a crazy question! Have you ever added a FMQ border to a finished quilt top, using a narrow “facing” that is applied to the quilt edge like binding? I’m thinking out loud...

I have not done it, but I don't see why it couldn't be done, and if I had a quilt that was smaller than I wanted I would give it a try! It could be done using a "Quilt as you go" technique.

Yes, this is what I helped a friend do, we used a quilt as you go technique and added a 8" or so border. I must say it worked out pretty well. My friend thought she had a full size bed but discovered it was a queen and wanted a bit more drop length.
One yard of fabric, like one cookie, is never enough!
